He'll probably be traded for a smaller salary player to create cap space.

NOT happy.

...We opened cap space to add Two or Three max stars. We added Two. We are now building a contender....which Donnie would have done.

We are going to be paying the luxury tax and adding salary from now on as a championship contender does. (see Lakers, Mavericks)

What's not to be happy about? We are going to be a Top 3 team.

 Top three team in what league? All need is amare going down with an injury, chandler reverting back to his bobcat days, and a rookie/jag point and all we are left with with Carmelo firing up 50 shots a game just so we can squeeze in the 8th seed.

We'll have the best front line in the league, defense, size, rebounding...Some of you guys act as if Chris Paul is the ONLY way to have a successful basketball team. I'm kinda glad we went in another direction.

Yeah we went in an isiah type direction, just collecting and overpaying talent regardless of the fit. NAME this floor general who is going to run dantoni's system?

Who is this missing link waiting in the wings to be our star point guard????????

We Don't even have any draft picks to hype up!

The Hornets have started to inform teams that they're sending Chris Paul to the Lakers for Bynum and Odom, league sources tell Y! Sports.

That's that.

i feel like im taking crazy pills, and I know this has been said, but 14m/year for chandler, isn't that VICIOUSLY OVERPAYING HIM?!! He's 29, but was straight out of high school, going into his 11th year. Lots of mileage on those legs, and mileage on big men wears them down more. He only played well with elite PGs (cp3 and kidd) and he comes here with no pg at all, so people are suggesting we TRADE AMARE???

So, do we NOW realize why this deal was done? We were not getting Paul via trade and the LA Lakers didn't seem to be on the list of "I won't extend with you"

Good. Hope it's over. They must have called Kobe & he said Bynum goes, not Pau.

I'm happy if CP3 signs an extension there.

That'll put an end to this madness.

This is awesome for a several reasons.

First and foremost it means we are shifting gears from "wait mode" to "GO mode". No more looking to free agency and no more players looking over their shoulders thinking they will be traded any second (which is why I'm hoping Paul gets extended anywhere now). Amar'e and Melo are in their primes I don't want to waste a year of it looking forward to next year.

Second we now have the best front court in the league with a center who compliments Amar'e perfectly. Don't get me wrong we overpaid for Chandler by at least 4 million a year, but he is the piece we needed. Even if we stripped the team and got CP3 we could not win a title with our porous interior defense.

Third we get to re-sign Fields. Even if he wasn't traded for Paul, we couldn't have re-signed him next summer without eating too much into our cap space.

Fourth we don't need a great point guard. Run the offense through Melo. He has that potential. Our guard committee of Douglas, Carter (?), Shumpert, Fields, and Walker are all capable players. Let them bring the ball up and let Melo take care of the rest. This will be even better if we can still nab Grant Hill.

On Knicks-Chandler front, sources say it looks like Billups will be amnestied and Turiaf will be sent out in separate deal. No sign/trade.

Let's do it, make it official.

This makes this trade stupid. We waste our amnesty on a guy who is very serviceable with one year left on this deal? Thats really stupid I cannot justify that. You got to save that amnesty incase of a crazy freak injury in the future.

i wonder who turiaf is getting us.. pg maybe? if not i'd keep him.. he'd be perfect in his 10-12 mpg role backing up chandler

I think they have to move him to make the numbers for Chandler work.

overpay?

not for bigmen

bigmen in the NBA get paid a lot.

Nene already makes 12

Guys like Noah, Horford, Biedrins, Varejao all make 8-13 million

So no, there's no way that we're overpaying. We're actually paying market rate.
