I think Time Lord may be an even worse nickname than Darantula. However, it has a quirkyness to it that will be marketable if the kids like it and RW blossoms into a star. It still sucks a$$ as a nickname.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Watch out: Robert Williams' "Time Lord" nickname may draw fitting sponsor

Never underestimate the power of the internet.

That was where Robert Williams' "Time Lord" nickname first originated as the brainchild of Ryan Hebert, aka @HebertofRiffs on Twitter.

Fast forward to Friday afternoon, when the "Time Lord" hype appeared earn the Boston Celtics rookie a shot at a sponsorship with ... a major watch company?

Well played, Timex.

This actually would be the perfect partnership: If Williams has his own customized watch, he'll never sleep through a conference call or a miss a flight again.

And what better way for Timex to promote its brand than through the Lord of Time himself?

Why?

Because
1. What is a 'time lord'? I don't know and I'm not looking it up. Nicknames shouldn't leave most of the audience blank.
2. Does it have anything to do with his abilities or traits on a basketball court? Or just the fact that he missed a flight and a practice?
3. If the latter, is that really what we want to keep top-of-mind with this guy for the next 10 years or so?
4. Have we ever been a franchise of crappy/gimmicky nicknames?

If we want to slobber over nicknames that we think sound cool but have no substance, I'm telling you, we should get Lucky looking a lot more like

Time Lord is an awesome nickname - and most of the Boston Audience knows exactly what one is. Has plenty of promotional lore behind it make it great mix. C's could be in the finals in Boston and Robert Williams could stroll in a Tom Baker style over coat with scarf.

In NE Time Lord awareness is much higher then the scream mask guy awareness. Truth.

ESPN's Big Board has him as a lottery-level talent. Attitude concerns have let him slide, but at 27, his raw talent is just too much to ignore. Great pick for us, he brings things to the table we've been lacking so far, shot-blocking and an athletic lob-catching roll man.

I just stole the Tantalizer nickname (alluding to Woj's thesaurus shenanigans when announcing the pick on Twitter) from Reddit, I can edit it out if wanted.

But nonetheless, I am **** excited about this one!

I second this. The Time Lord is just such a perfect nickname for him too.

Might be the first nickname for a Celtic player that sticks in a long time. Maybe since Pierce.

Uh, holding Davis to 15 points off 7-of-17 shooting is terrific.

That is 36 combined points for the two players. He is averaging 27 points per game. His 41 points in the game were his second highest of the season.

The 41% shooting William held Davis to is not bad considering he is averaging about 50% on the season but it is almost identical to the 42% the Celtics held him to on Nov 26th.

I like Williams, I'm just not willing to anoint him Deke 2.0 just yet.

Five blocks in 40 minutes over the last two games; maybe he is Deke 2.0.

Why Time Lord, and not Lord of Time?

To me, he is still The Tantalizing Robert Williams (TTRW).

Because of the Dr Who universe they are referred to and refer to themselves as Time Lords.

It's a pun based on Dr Who

Bobby Block would be my choice of nickname for Williams. I also like The Notorious B. O. B. I am cool with Time Lord though. I also don’t mind Robert Williams.
