Yeah it's a great move. Simons is also expiring in two seasons so that's getting off money that would still be owned to Jrue otherwise (at $37m)

It's not like Holiday is a great floor general and he doesn't really fit the timeline of the young Blazers roster since Holiday is going to be the elder statesman of the Blazers team filled with early 20 somethings.
The two thoughts that came to mind is they legitimately think Holiday is an upgrade for the team in terms of leadership/defense so their team could build on this past season's somewhat surprising success and they didn't want to negotiate his extension which he's eligible for.
I just don't completely understand giving up 2 seconds to do it, especially when Boston has been pretty public about trying to drop salary. This deal drops Boston's salary by about $5m (not a small sum when you consider luxury tax) but maybe more importantly, it's getting them off Jrue's massive contract. I thought I read the report wrong because I thought the 2nds were going TO Portland which would've made more sense
