melo to nets is GOOD for the knicks

the FA market other than melo this coming summer does not have many stars

m gasol would help, but we'd have to pay him max dollars to get him out of mem

then you skip the star and load up on complimentary talent

Sure if Melo decides he won't extend and signs with NY after the season. Otherwise, no...it's not.

Complimentary talent wont' allow the Knicks to compete for anything but making the playoffs for years to come.

And the 3-way staring contest continues with the Nets as the all too happy pooch lapping at the players feet.

all those "complimentary" pieces in Cleveland that were revolved around LeBron are doing really great without him, really

enough of this "happy to be there" garbage, you have to build a team that can win it all, not just make the 7 seed.

IF Melo gets traded to the Nets or any other team for that matter then Donnie needs to make sure we get some more peices for Amar'e.

Another playable C and a PG that can take some mins away from Felton.

We still good to go playboi.

if the knicks somehow miss out on melo it's more of a blow then people realize. there's nobody out there for us to get at this price who will make the kind of impact he will. it's not really a good free agent year.

The Nets situation with Melo is like when one guy constantly asks the same girl out, but the girl keeps saying no.

shammgod is right...IF Melo does go to the Nets, this will be our team (with some minor moves) until 2012. With that being said, I really don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that Melo ends up in NJ.

I agree. BUT if melo really picked the Nets, i'd have comfort in knowing that he would never amount to anything there with that group. seriously, would he really screw himself like that. Lebron passed over NY to play with Wade and Bosh. As stupid as that sounds, its an upgrade over what the Knicks had. Going to NJ to play with Lopez - some good prospects used to aquire you. Or going to NY to play with Amare - some good prospects used to aquire you. Which one sounds better from the players point of view? I just dont see how we can miss out honestly.

exactly. he is our best shot at becoming a contender right now and get amare the help he needs. we just have to hope Denver steps up and agrees to work with donnie

The one thing I can trust with Donnie is that he will explore every possible option available to him. I'm confident he already has drawn suitable backup plans to help retool the team.

To add onto that, the options he's drawing up are not jeopardizing our team's future - no long term crap contracts. Walsh is one of the best/smartest GMs in the NBA.

But the Knicks have to accept the fact that the Nets are a very real competitor here and they could emerge as the winner by February if Carmelo decides to accept the short-term stop in Newark.

If Melo agrees to a short term stop in Newark, doesn't that make the Knicks the winner?

Blinking contest.

Denver leaking reports to Woj to try and get Melo to blink.

Melo doesn't blink, he stays in Denver or gets traded to the Knicks.

Pretty simple, really.

+1...The way he moved with lightning speed (the GS trade and the Felton signing) after LeBum spurned us proves this. He's got a contingency plan in the pipeline if Melo goes somehwere else.
