In terms of value, taking Lonzo and Deng into cap space is a great deal. I love Lonzo's fit with this team. Certainly a much better deal in terms of value than sending out Warren AND Chriss AND a 1st for Love.
But my mind explodes at the thought of the $$$ it would take to keep Lonzo-Booker-Jackson-Bridges-Ayton together long-term. You're looking at 5 max deals, right there. Like, $150 million per, for five players. Pretty hard to imagine.
OTOH, you have contractual control of these guys for the next 5 (Booker) to 8 (Ayton + Bridges) years. We'd be in the championship conversation beginning in 2019-20 and every year thereafter, as long as we can keep it together. How much $$$ is a dynasty worth?
Perhaps the ultimate solution there is to start shedding players from your core at some point via trade. If these guys truly are worth the max, you can get long-term value back in exchange, no problem.
But given that this a CLE business owner that knows about this deal, it is more reasonable to assume that CLE is involved in the deal. Why would this guy be the first person to know about a LAL-PHX deal?
