Yeah, add a pick to it.

I know Blakes contract is pricey, but it's only for this season and next. I bet we can get Blake to resign for less than Lauris contract.

Your D-Rose fandom isn’t making you think clearly. What’s the benefit of adding these two players on the roster? Do they make the Bulls a contender? I’d rather gamble on a 23 year old.
Derrick Rose is a solid player who will probably finish his career in Chicago once his contract in Detroit expires. I’d rather pay Lauri 20 million a year than pay 37 million a year to a 32 year old (often injured) Blake Griffin. Detroit would need to add a 1st for us to take on all that money.
Dude nobody makes us a contender. We can't compete with the Nets and Lakers of the leagues. But, I bet we make the playoffs with that trade and it would be a better product than what we have now.
Put out a lineup of Rose > Coby > Lavine > Blake > Wendell and we might do OK.

Kind of a boring deal but sensible.

I think this deal makes a lot of sense. I didn’t look up the exact salary but I’m sure the Celtics would have to send some salary back to stay under the hard cap. There’s no way they are more than Otto’s salary under it.

Get ready for 5 more years of Lauri once he signs his new deal.

You're right. Celtics would have to send back/dump about $7 million in salary to absorb Otto and stay below that hard cap (assuming they make no other moves that add/remove salary).
It's doable but cumbersome. They'd have to cut Javonte Green and trade Teague/Carsen Edwards/Ojeleye.
But then they'd have:
Kemba
Brown
Tatum
Otto
Theis or Tristan Thompson
Marcus Smart as 6th man with some other young guys on the bench. If Otto presumably was playing at his best, that's a real good looking group.

If Lauri keeps up this kind of production (doubt it) and stays relatively healthy (doubt it) then why would you throw him away like that? Big offseason moves? Outside of Kawhi, who is very clearly not coming, there is nobody out there who you really want to pay that kind of money. Like I said, I have my doubts with Lauri and I would absolutely be open to trading him, but it seems like some people have already written him off no matter what he does...that's weird to me.

sco wrote:My point is predicated on the fact that we are still terrible despite his improved play. IMO in that situation, it would be clear that Lauri (and everyone else, but Lauri first because of his contract) should be traded to allow the FO to reboot.

The Bulls window of contention opens in 2-4 years when guys like LeBron, Durant, etc are 35+ years old. You don't throw away a 23 year old power forward that looks significantly better this season, for 2 aging vets that win you just enough games to miss out on a top player in a stacked 2021 draft class.
It's short sited - and likely because you love D-Rose. I get it. I wish he was here too.

It looks like Nesmith and Langford make exactly the amount that Boston would be over the cap as well. So, it could be a trade of Otto to Boston for Langford/Nesmith (or them routed elsewhere for draft picks). It is kind of crazy how perfectly Otto fits into that trade exception. It's almost like they had Charlotte sign Hayward for that exact amount to create it for him.

I’d love a Lavine for Jaylen Brown.

Prob not, but Otto/Gafford for Fournier, Aminu, Ennis and Bamba works, and I'd do that deal.
