I bet there were quite a few people pushing to hold the number 1 pick in Bargs year, while if we moved it we might be in the playoffs right now. Picks = most overvalued assets ever, especially by fans.
Don't put words in my mouth...all I said was that I wouldn't trade the pick for Gortat. If the right deal comes along maybe, but if not you go for the best available prospect to join the young core.
The pick for Gortat was never purposed, it was always swapping picks and Gortat.
Gortat is young and proven and in a weak draft that lacks our weakness (center) why not get that?
Gortat isn't exactly proven....he had good minutes as a backup in Orlando and some good time in Phoenix next to Nash, but are we going to trade what could be the number 1,2,3,4,5,6 pick for him? Do you see him as a championship centre next to Ed Davis? I don't. We're rebuilding, and I think we can get a better C prospect, possibly even in this draft (Kanter). Why would we want to swap picks if there are very good prospects in the top 5 but the draft is considered crap after the first half of the lottery. Don't get me wrong, Gortat is quite good, but we could possibly draft an allstar with this pick.
