I think they drafted by design tbh

Joel - injured when drafted but could play inside or out

Noel - injured when drafted but looked like he was capable of being a defensive anchor

In theory you could not only play them together (Joel defending 4s) but the fact both were injured allowed Hinkie to tank again.

Things started going south for Hinkie and he was overruled on Zingis for Okafor - the idea being he was the "franchise" big they wanted and the Noel/Okafor tandem was great on both ends with one making up for the other's deficiencies despite neither have the range of Joel.

Simmons was a BC pick but followed along with Hinkie's MO - draft the injured dude with superstar potential and sit him a year to gain another potential superstar.

Of those 4 Drafts Okafor was the wrong guy - I think it's funny that not only did Hinkie get overruled on that but even after he was fired/quit they continued to do what he set out to do.

Noel - Joel - Simmons - ? - Fultz would be a hell of a start for any team, especially with Saric & Covington on the roster as well.

Sign a shooter (JJ) and away you go...

So:

blame BC for trading Noel
blame ownership for drafting Okafor

But Hinkie was right & IF they can get/stay healthy they loom as a powerhouse in the weak East within 3 years!

Weird thing is: if it takes another 3 years before they reach ECF/Finals then that puts the tank into Year 7 (if memory serves)

Yeah that's gotta suck...but we were craptacular for a decade and don't have anywhere near that kind of hope!

Makes me wonder in a post-Hinkie NBA if more teams will pull a ATL, CHI, PHI and tank hard?

Yeah the Lottery odds have changed a little but as long as you don't actually state that you are playing the system, dont alienate agents and your ownership allows you to do it the league will STFU

Hinkie got "got" because he didnt play the political game...and Joel suffered his set back.

All that said - you'd hope there's a lot of health related incentives in that contract

Damn, wish we had drafted him or kuzma, at least we would have something to be excited about other than Dre improving his FT.

honestly i am still hesitant to say he's going to be this good his rookie year, but the fact that he's making scrubs look like scrubs and RJ hasn't been able to do that ever. Makes me even more upset.

I'm not upset we took Kennard, i am upset we didn't take Mitchell because we had RJ

Yeah I remember you hyping him up too. I thought he'd just be a useful sixth man but man does he look good. I didn't know he had handles like that. Looks like Avery Bradley but with more handles.

That "Want It All" Nike commercial is dope. And I hate LeBron... but it's dope anyway.

Sorry for any athlete that gets injured. Although he does have a guaranteed contract that pays him over 100M so if it hurts his career, he won't really be hurting. And not that I'm too much of a dick, but if it were to happen to any team...

Going to find out real quick how good Irving is. If he's truly a top 10 player he should still have the Celtics as a top 4 seed.
