I think he's going to have a really hard time improving on his weaknesses, that frame and athleticism isn't going to get any better. Doubt that hitch or the inability to make a runner will get any better either but maybe I'm wrong. Who's he going to defend at 200lb.

He's not an explosive athlete, but he's not a bad one by any means. As for the frame, fine, but he's at 210lbs right now. I see no reason why he can't get up to 215-220 once he gets on an NBA weight training plan.

The hitch hasn't stopped him at all in ANY scenario shooting the ball in college, nor is it even a bad hitch - he shoots the ball at the peak, which is where you want to shoot. If you want to criticize one aspect of the shot, at least go for the one that might matter, although it's unlikely - the fact that he shoots further in front of his body than you'd like. I mean, Knox was in the 44th percentile on catch and shoots but his shot looks better...Mikal was in the 94th...with "the hitch."

Knox cannot create plays for others, and while Mikal is not really a point forward either, at least he looks to pass - 20% of the time Knox looked to pass in the Pnr, and Mikal was at 43.

Inability to make a runner, ok. 65.5% at the rim in the half court, Knox was at 55% (not sure if you want him, just saying). He only went to it 2.6% of the time, unlike Knox who used it 16% of the time...but, then again, Knox had to use it because he had no touch around the rim. 62nd percentile for Knox, 93rd for Mikal.

Not sure how anyone who has watched him play is asking "who is he going to defend," but ok.

I would expect marginal improvement from a kid 3 years older than Knox and his experience level...

Mikal also has a high and lose dribble and doesn't move the ball well. Again, he's a really experienced kid and my concern is this is it...if it is it, that's a middling NBA starter right there.

Ok, but that does not mean a) he's done improving b) Knox will magically become some great defender or high IQ player or c) that Knox will ever reach Mikal's current production. Again, today's NBA is threes and attacking the rim (in addition to defense). Knox does none of that well.

The high and loose dribble can be improved for sure, as it can with Knox just the same, but even last year, Mikal was not some guy who had to use his right hand to push off defenders to get them away from his left hand dribble; he wasn't dribbling into 3-4 defenders; he wasn't losing the ball randomly...

Do you consider RoCo a "middling NBA starter?" What about Khris Middleton or Otto Porter? Ariza?

If Boston wanted to trade us Tatum or Brown for KP, that's another discussion

I wouldn’t trade KP for Brown, unless it came with next years Sacramento pick. I’m just weary a 7’3 guy will return 100% from a torn ACL. It’s not anything about his play.

I mean, Kawhi's injury might be degenerative, which means we'd have a limited window to work with him

So if we take Bamba and are gonna trade KP, I'd rather it be for a younger player to grow with Frank/Bamba, who are both projects

Strength can be gained in the gym. He plays strong as hell. Have you watched him live?

I have, I don't think he's going to gain much more strength, his frame, shoulders are very slight. I think opposing NBA wings will bully him.

His shoulders really aren’t slight. He has plenty of size to gain w NBA trainers. Look what Oladipo did to his body.

I actually think Bamba isn't really a project in terms of what he can provide now. The project part is the offense, which I think is further along than people realize - he was not a good offensive player his senior year in HS, and now he's picking and popping / hitting spot up threes, albeit at a low %, at Texas. I know that opinion isn't a common one, but it's part of why I have him and Luka as my only tier 1 guys.

But please don’t trade Frank.

Is there really a chance it’s degenerative? That would change my intrigue. I love Bamba, but don’t like the FIT long term with KP. We saw how the finals played out. You think Boston would trade Tatum for KP?

He was a very good cutter and finisher in college. He didn't take many floaters/runners because he took it to the rim when he had a lane and used his length to finish.

Knox went to the floater 16% of the time and attacked the rim 18% of the time in the half court. Mikal went to the floater 2.6% of the time, and attacked the rim 27% of the time. Threes and paint finishing is the goal, right? Not floaters and mid-range jumpers like knox goes to. Knox's inability to finish around the rim probably kept him from attacking...EVEN THOUGH he literally doubled his FTR (13% to 26%) when he attacked vs went to the floater. That's not someone who thinks the game, that's someone who is afraid of attacking.

My favorite play from Knox this year was attacking Konate on the drive. Why? Fearlessness. The reason that stands out is because that was basically the only time he did that the entire season.

Yeah, that is what you want. It def shows up in efficiency numbers. Mikal could easily end up being the better offensive player then Knox.

kp for tatum

who says no?

If they traded up to #4 (without giving up Frank), I'd do it.

Frank
THJ
Tatum
Parsons
Bamba

That's a pretty enticing starting 5 minus Parsons

All joking aside, I bleed Knick blue, if he's the pick, I'll be disappointed, really disappointed but gonna reluctantly get on the bandwagon and cheer for him to prove me wrong.

im not with trading kp unless we get someone who fits the window. Kp/kawhi or kp/bamba make more sense than bamba/kawhi.
