It's funny to read teams pitching that their teams package is the "best", like Minnesota fans are going to all agree and call Flip up to make the deal..

That's beyond horrible for Atlanta.
Yeah they would need to cut Houston out and get Love for themselves. Horford plus pick for Love would be an interesting deal.

How is it beyond horrible for them? That's a good package for good player, not a superstar, which Horford really is. Hawks may decline but don't tell me it's beyond horrible. Anyway, I really like Horford and would add pick#13 if Hawks want more.

And why would Love resign in Atlanta? Houston is one of the places where Love would be a near lock resigning. Atlanta is a joke destination for Love and they know it and would be crazy to lose Horford and a pick for rental of Love.

Only 2 deals I'd consider.
Houston would need to add something else though. Perhaps Asik to a third team and another first coming the Wolves' way.
Question:
Does anyone think the Wolves have a chance to KEEP Kevin Love? Be it by winning the Draft Lottery and getting a top 3 pick and trading for a star player, or making a trade to acquire another star player with current assets? The Wolves then vault into a top 4 team in the West and the future looks promising? No?

Yeah, I check other team's boards because I want an independent/outside view; not just to hear the same group thinking going on at my team's boards.

Not so high on the GS trade. Its an aging double double guy and a young Kevin Martin who plays defense for a superstar double double guy and an old Kevin Martin. Harrison Barnes is negligible. Its essentially leaving the Wolves where they are now. Nowhere. between 11 and 8. Its just not worth it.
I think the Wolves would have a shot if a superstar was brought to the team (i.e. Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis etc.) which is NOT going to happen. As far as the Lottery goes. Its 96 percent chance the Wolves stay where they are. It would be amazing if they got the top 3 but its just not going to happen.

Wow klay thompson is seriously underrated on this board. if you consider klay to be a streaky shooter, so is everybody minus lebron and durant. Also he is one of the best defensive sg in the league. These comparisons to korver and waiters are terrible. I guess every SG/undersized shooting SF in the league is suddenly the same thing or some thing.

This. And just by virtue of being in the Eastern Conference, he has a higher chance of winning a title than he would with the Warriors, or Suns, or Rockets, etc..
Wait, what?!?

Re: Kevin Love Free Agency/Trade Thread
I haven't been following this thread page by page. It exploded within the past 24 hours so I'm not going to catch up.
I think the best scenario is a Boston-Minnesota trade (again). And this is all probably a pipe dream anyways.
Love + Barea
for
#1 pick + Green
(and whatever fillers need to be thrown in from either side to make it work)
Then Minnesota drafts Aaron Gordon with the 5th pick (if it stays there) and Doug McDermott with their own pick. Address backup PG in free agency or maybe find a steal with one of our 3 second rounders.
Rubio/free agency-draft?/Shved
Martin/Brewer
Green/Budinger/Bazz
Gordon/Cunningham
Pekovic/Dieng
I don't know Green's contract status. But Gordon and Green provide the athleticism and defense that the Wolves have needed from their forward positions. I also think Green and Gordon are the perfect type of players that Rubio needs to really thrive.

Best deal for Minny is Thompson and Lee. In fact trading Pek away and starting Dieng and drafting at 13 would make a better team than this year. Martin could be moved or relegated to 6th man off the bench but I doubt he would embrace that role.
I like Klay Thompson shooting effiency. However he has been developing in good environment, can't say this about Waiters. So Klay Thompson is more developed at the moment, and he fits perfectly with Rubio. Waiters is different type of player, he is more shot creator, he is more aggresive, creative. So just need to understand what we need more: good shooter or creative scorer.
Sure. And Klay is one heck of a player and shooter don't get me wrong. But don't act like Waiters value is far off from Klay. It is pretty close, because Dion is also a good player. Waiters can shoot too, not as well as Klay obviously, but he can attack the basket and run in transition better. It is up to what a team wants. However, not sure it matters much since I just saw that the Warriors don't plan on offering Klay in a trade.

Where is that coming from? I'd love to read the argument for why/how that is true.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

What do you mean Waiter's trade value is close to Klay Thompsons. Post that on the trade board and see what you get. Waiters for Thompson... wow

Klay Thompson and Beal are in a league of their own when you talk about young SGs who can defend while making shots in the other end. Butler, Tony Allen, and Avery are better defenders but they aren't comfortable dribbling the ball and are limited offensive players. When you are looking for players to pair up with Ricky Rubio, Klay Thompson who is an offensive dynamo and a good defender is the best player Wolves can hope to get in this Kevin Love trade. When I watch Thompson play, he is long, strong, and he stays in front of his man consistently unlike most of the SGs in the NBA today. He also is a great rebounder for SG and is a smart player who contests shots well but that's just what I have seen from him. I was trying to find those defensive rating sites but I couldn't, could anyone check where Klay is at in terms of SG?

Well you also take into consideration that the 9th pick in the lottery would be on the table with Dion. But like I said, doesn't matter because Warriors aren't giving up Klay.

It's easier to make the playoffs, but it's not easier to win a title in the East. That only works if all the teams in the East suck and your team happens to be the best team in the East and the league. Just because the Bobcats/Hornets made the playoffs in the East, because it's easier to make the playoffs, doesn't make it easier for them to win the title.

I personally think that Wolves fans should be really familiar with Dion Waiters. He used to play for them back in the day, but went by the name Isaiah Rider.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
