Perry was hired as a front office executive for the Detroit Pistons by President Joe Dumars in June 2000. As a member of their executive team, Perry assisted in building a roster that went to six Eastern Conference Finals appearances (2003-2008), two Eastern Conference Championships (2004, 2005) and the 2004 NBA Championship.

Afterward, Perry served as the assistant general manager for the Seattle SuperSonics (now Oklahoma City Thunder) for one season (2007–08).[3]

He was part of the front office staff that drafted Kevin Durant to the Sonics/Thunder in the first round with the second overall pick. He then returned to the Pistons to become vice president of basketball operations from 2008 to 2012.[2]

On June 25, 2012, Perry was hired by Orlando Magic General Manager Rob Hennigan to become Hennigan's vice president and assistant general manager.[1] ESPN basketball analyst and former NBA player Chauncey Billups spoke highly of Perry as the assistant General Manager of the Magic, saying, "I love Scott Perry in the front office."[4][5]

In his time in Orlando, Perry helped draft Victor Oladipo (2013), Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton (2014), and Mario Hezonja (2015) in Orlando.

On April 21, 2017 Perry was hired to be the Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Sacramento Kings.

Trying to paint him in the negative when he was never the boss. I see...

can't really blame him for the 2014 draft

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_NBA_draft

thats a pretty horrible group Gordon/Payton are at least contributors...nothing special though.

Oladipo is a good piece.

Mario was a horrible pick. I think supposidly if you ask Magic fans they wanted KP really bad (so they had the right idea). Maybe they thought we were going Winslow or Mudiay and then when we picked KP they panicked...but from all accounts they wanted KP really bad. So they maybe reached with the euro thing with Mario.

he never had final say so it's really impossible to know what he really wanted anyway

To be fair, Perry was always the VP, never the Pres or GM, so he never had the final say, so we really can't judge him based off the moves of those teams

Apparently, he's well-respected by players and agents, which is probably the thing we need the most right now, so I like him

true...I just don't believe Vladi was doing scouting and stuff. I have to believe he had a strong influence on the kings draft which was widely considered a huge hit.

“It’s all about the team, sacrificing and helping one another on a daily basis,” Perry, the Kings’ new executive vice president of basketball operations, told The Undefeated. “It’s all about development. That’s the thing we have to do each and every day. You don’t wave a magic wand, but you commit to do it on a daily basis.

“I am very excited about this opportunity to help Vlade and ownership to get the Kings back to the culture they had a while back. There is a lot of young talent in the fold. Through the draft, we can create some pieces. It’s an exciting time.”

While Divac remains in his role as general manager, Perry will have a strong influence on basketball personnel decisions. The first major task for Perry with the Kings will be the heralded 2017 NBA draft. This draft is expected to be one of the best in years, with such prospects as Washington guard Markelle Fultz, Kentucky guard De’Aaron Fox, UCLA guard Lonzo Ball and Kansas swingman Josh Jackson.

He had a strong influence on the kings and basically turned them around in 3 months

Turned them around? They haven't even played a game yet and they had 2 top 10 picks before the draft started.

he was never the GM of the magic. He was making draft picks

Oladipo/Gordon/Payton aren't bad picks. Mario was his worst there.

Gordon & Payton looking real shaky.
Oladipo cool. Mario is trash & a half, correct.

Payton has been solid and Gordon has been solid when he didn't play at SF. Mario is bad, but 3/4 isn't bad at all when it comes to picks. He also did a good job with the Kings picks this year.

So he drafted Fox and moved down in the draft to pick up more pieces, which looked good until Giles' knees exploded

He's never been the GM to make any picks and very well could have liked another player in any of these drafts but the GM went another way. There's no telling what players he was for or not for.

Damn people are so ready to hate on anything Knicks before knowing anything.

And what does that mean? Signing vets isn't something that is unheard of in the NBA. Because you sign vets you are going to be good?
