Real Madrid already had the best team in the world, outside of the NBA. If they bring Garuba back, they'll be even better.

It would actually be fun to see them go against an NBA team..

I find it funny how two players, Terrance Ross and Will Barton, that many folks on this board were clamoring for last season but we're upset when they signed elsewhere, are now available again and not being mentioned very much this season.

He's raw and he's a project. But he's only 21 yrs old and has a 7'6" wingspan.

Give him a camp invite or at least bring him in for a workout.

Lamar Stevens for the 15th roster spot and Aliou Diarra for the last 2-way spot. Let's go!

Malik Fitts is the only answer.

I'm guilty of wanting Will the Thrill Barton last spring and admit I was wrong. Apparently his 16 games in TOR did not convince anyone else they missed out on him.

The other guy who I will still stump for is Stanley Johnson. Great body, seems to play with intensity, has some game including (last season) a 3 point shot -- but obviously NBA execs are not interested and who I am kidding, despite the name of the website I'm just a fakeGM  :sigh: :reporter: and I'd guess that Brisset now has that role for BOS.

Yeah, something doesn't quite add up with Stanley Johnson. The reports said that he asked for the spurs to cut him. That to me indicated that he already had a wink wing agreement with another team that was ready to scoop him up and sign him.

Yet no one ever signed him..so it doesn't really make sense. Why wouldn't he have just stayed on the spurs?

Perhaps the spurs just dumped him for some reason and just said that Johnson asked to be waived so Johnson didn't look as bad to other teams out there. Who knows, maybe there was an incident, maybe Johnson got into it with Popovich, or got into it with a teammate or something. Sometimes guys just get waived out of nowhere for a random reasons. Josh Primo got waived by the spurs for being a pervert to the team therapist. Luka Samanic got cut by the spurs for not hustling back on defense in a preseason game.

Also, regarding the timing..right after the spurs waived Stanley Johnson, they signed Julian Champagnie. So perhaps they had Johnson on the team for a few months, saw what he could do and then figured why not kick the tires on Champagnie, who is much younger so might have some upside - and they were tanking team so it makes more sense to have the younger guy in there anyways, take a flier and see if he could turn into something.

Lastly, Stanley Johnson has bounced around the league a lot. Pistons, Bulls, Raptors, Lakers, spurs, etc. Doesn't seem to stick anywhere. So there's gotta be a reason for that.

There are like 70 players on that list. It's not slim pickings out there, but... nutritionally challenged pickings.

(And thanks for adding future Celtics throwback legend Kenneth Faried to the list)

It wouldn't be a bad option.

He's kind of a fringe NBA guy at this point (next stop might be Europe if he doesn't sign with an NBA team soon) so would probably be ok with taking a non-guranteed or partially guaranteed deal. But at the same time, he was a decent contributor last season for a team that made the WCF and is in his prime at age 26, had a pretty good showing in the World Cup this summer. So he's about as good a player as you could find, who would be willing to take that type of a contract - and such a limited role.

Plus, he would love being able to play in Boston since he has so much friends/family in the area (he moved with his family to Manchester, NH in middle school)..

Rumor has it Griffin is unlikely to return to Boston and garuba is likely headed to Europe. If we go with a guy who can play the 5 with this last roster spot, Gabriel has a strong case to be that guy.

Hell, you could even argue that he's the best big man free agent left right now, even including Griffin and Garuba since some might say Gabriel has much more gas left in the tank than Griffin and is more polished, further along his his development and more likely to contribute to a contender in the short term than garuba.

If both Garuba and Griffen are off the list, then it's the next man up that is a mobile big. Last year we were interested in Vanderbilt as the front court lacked depth and athleticism. Gabriel looks promising. Biyombo has more experience. Faried is my fave reclamation project. These guys preferred over Dwight/Boogie/Favors rehash at this point.

Just some depth that is a different look than what Kornet can give us.

Not really slim picking when we need zero to one more person on that list and there are 70 guys. Unless I missed him, I also don't see Louis King on there, who we had in for a work out and I consider a good option to get a wing with some upside that likely won't see the court very much.

Smitty at 20:40 essentially says that Blake loved Boston last year but that he badly missed his family on the West Coast. Mentioned maybe playing for an LA team, or retiring if he doesn't end up coming back to Boston.

Like I've said before, I think he's retiring. Maybe he'll go back to the Clippers if they get Harden since they'll have roster space
