Just wanted to reiterate that this off season has been very entertaining. Plot twists abound.

Please correct me if i am not mistaken but arent we a back to back lottery team?
You are mistaken. 2 years ago we made the playoffs with Wade/Joe Johnson etc.
Last year we were in the lottery, yes, but we were the best team in the East (fact, not opinion) in the 2nd half of the season and actually tied for the final playoff spot. If it wasnt for one of the worst starts in franchise history, we may be having a whole different conversation here.
Some of you glass half empty people really drive me crazy. It must be so hard being so negative about something like sports.
All I know is I have a close family friend who is high up in the heat organization. I saw him over the weekend and he said that he has never been as genuinely happy and excited going into a season as he is this year. That to me speaks VOLUMES.
All I know is that the people inside the organization are feeling something special, and actually buying into this "Culture" thing. Does anyone realize how big that really is in sports??
Im sorry, but there are only MAYBE 5 players in the league that will make us an instant championship contender and we are not getting them at the moment. So why not be okay with having a fun, exciting young team that REALLY wants to work for each other and get better.
There is a reason that the Heat have a model organization, and why others around the world try to emulate it. There is a reason why we get at least a meeting with EVERY top free agent on the market.
I'm pretty sure 95% of the NBA teams are excited heading into the season at this point.
Kyrie can easily lure one of those 5 players over anyone we have.
We were the second best team in the second half but in the first half we were also one of the worst so that leaves a 50/50 chance to either be a bad team or a good team. Before you say we had injuries please realize other teams had injuries and still won games.
Getting a meeting with every top free agent doesn't mean anything if we're not managing to sign them. I could work for a car lot and have someone drive every car but unless I sell one I still won't make any commission.
Im gonna respond to your post in pieces:
"I'm pretty sure 95% of the NBA teams are excited heading into the season at this point."
You are pretty sure? Show me the execs from the 95% that you talked to. Im sorry but "being excited" is a little different than what is going on in Miami. From the way you are talking, it seems as though you have never been on a real competitive team that both have and do not have chemistry question marks. Having a team buying in like this is RARE. It is DEFINITELY not 95%. Show me a team that has been posting pictures together and hanging out with each others families while still not even knowing whether they will be on the roster.
My only point on this was that our team seems to genuinely like one another. That can never be undervalued in a profession where you basically live together for months at a time.
"Kyrie can easily lure one of those 5 players over anyone we have. "
Where is your proof for this? IIRC, the Cavs were one of the worst teams in the league while Kyrie was there pre-Bron, and had a LOT of problems with teammates (Our best player, Waiters, being one of them), and front office executives (reports from Windhorst from 2014).
You know what has shown to make top 5 players interested? A stable, world class organization. Which we are one of the very few of.
"We were the second best team in the second half but in the first half we were also one of the worst so that leaves a 50/50 chance to either be a bad team or a good team. Before you say we had injuries please realize other teams had injuries and still won games."
So you say this but obviously didnt read where I talked about the glass half empty people. This is CRAZY. I am not saying we have injuries. What I am saying is that we have an ELITE coach who lost 3 HOF level players in a 2 year span (not even considering the top role players who we also lost) and had to figure out the roster that he had before we could turn things around. Once Spo seemed to settle into a rotation that he could figure out and gear the offense to our strengths, we turned into a powerhouse.
You may look at it as pure luck, or whatever you wanna call it (your 50/50 chance next year). Me, I look at it as us developing from an actual basketball perspective.
"Getting a meeting with every top free agent doesn't mean anything if we're not managing to sign them. I could work for a car lot and have someone drive every car but unless I sell one I still won't make any commission."
WHAT?!? You got Shaq to help bring titles and add experienced vets like Walker, Williams, Posey, Zo (coming back) along with the countless other pieces on that team. You got LeBron!!!!!!!! Along with the Allen's and Battier's and Anderson's and countless veteran guards.
How much more do you want???? Im sorry that our 3 that we "have not gotten" went like this:
KD - Signed with possibly greatest team ever
Aldridge - We had absolutely 0 cap room to sign him, we were waiting till following year
Hayward - Went to play with his mentor/college coach
Im sorry, but if Pat Riley worked at a car lot he would be considered one of the greatest car salesmen of all time.

Idk who they're going to get at guard for Kyrie that isn't a step down. They're not in a good place. Lots of teams have guards they're not interested in trading and plenty of teams with solid pgs on longer deals.
Kyrie may end up on a really bad team too, lol.
I think he ends up with the Suns with the Cavs getting back Bledsoe, Chandler, and some combination of 1st rd picks. They probably end up trading the Heat's pick to the Cavs.

Yea' they're going to overestimate his value and have to bite dust just like most teams that overvalued their players. They're not getting any star players or great young players, they'll get role players and if they're lucky as close to blue-chip as they can get in either Hassan or Bledsoe. Don't know if I'm overlooking a few teams but I don't see it. I think who ever can give them a decent starter + picks gets him

Irving' camp might have not leaked it but no one has refuted his preffered teams as being untrue. Woj and Lowe has even repeated such
True but in the end the trade request to those teams means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. What is KI going to do if not traded to those teams? Retire?
Yea', nothing he can do. Maybe his preference list discourages a few teams from bidding and further agitating an already disgruntled player

Kyrie could really **** over the Cavs and say he will opt out and leave any team that isn't on his preferred list. He may not have as much power as a no-trade clause, but he can severely drop his value and mess up a lot of stuff for the Cavs.

Cavs will still get their due on way or another. But the threat of him being a 2 year rental will limit them getting a star in return they will have to settle to some degree bc no1 is parting star for star without a guarantee lol.

Yeah they're definitely not getting a player who is as good as kyrie in an overall ability comparison, but they could win a kyrie trade in the short term in the sense that they could trade for someone who fits their team better and makes them a better team right now. A guy who can shoot and defend at a pretty high borderline all star level instead of kyrie would make them a better team.
I'd argue that despite kyrie being the better player, a guy like Goran dragic or Eric Bledsoe would make Cleveland better because of fit.
But yeah they're not gonna get someone as good as kyrie back. And if they end up moving on from kyrie and settling on derrick rose as a starting pg for next season, it's hard to see them not taking a step back as a team unless they get an awesome two way guard/wing in a kyrie trade.

Everyone thought Paul George had that type of power. Remember the Lakers or nothing? OKC comes out of nowhere. Someone will be willing to take the gamble for two years and bird rights in trying to sell Kyrie as there prime superstar. I honestly think at this point Kyrie just wants away from Lebron and will probably give little resistance to going to any other team as long as it gets him away from Lebron.

But what did the Pacers get out of it? That's what I mean. Pg crippled his value so no one was willing to give up much of anything for him. He can get traded, no doubt. But the Cavs won't get much if Kyrie flies off the handle.

that's not true, tho. Cavs wanted to trade Love for him, Celtics had their picks on the table. Of course they couldn't get the full value out of these deals, but they picked the worst one.

Wait, I thought the trade fell through with the Celtics because they wouldn't throw in the bkn picks? The complaint about teams thinking they deserve those in trades or something to that effect from Ainge?
Pacers had no use for Love with Turner on the roster. I think they wanted youth too.

Nah, several top C's picks were on the table, but Ainge wanted sign Hayward at first.
I think Love deal was like - Love to Den; PG to Cle; Harris + filler + picks to IND

Sooo if Kyrie flies off the handle that means the Cavs are forced to trade him to a conference rival for pennies on the dollar? How about the Cavs tell Kyrie to eat a D and has to suck it up for two years cause they are better off just having his 18 mil salary off the books without taking anything in? I mean we got people in here talking about giving up TJ's balloon salary as if that's enticing to the Cavs. Then you toss in a 31 year old PG in Dragic who also probably does nothing to move the needle for them. Maybe it's the 1st round pick in 6 years from now that we throw in that tells Cavs management oh yeah let's put Kyrie on the Heat so he could haunt us in our division for the next 10 years.
....wat? No, if Kyrie flies off the handle, that lowers the amount of teams interested in acquiring him and lowers the value that the still-interested teams would be willing to give up for his services. That's all I meant, dunno about that other stuff. Idk why the he'll the Cavs would take Dragic and TJ for Kyrie either. Or even trade with us for that matter.
"Ainge didn’t offer one of the premium picks the Celtics control, like Brooklyn’s 2018 pick, or the protected Lakers 2018/Kings 2019 pick."
https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2017/7/1/15907324/paul-george-trade-pacers-what-about-the-celtics
You might be thinking of February, where Ainge offered the 2017 bkn pick but Bird said no.
Yeah Pritchard backed out of the trade because that would be similar to us doing business with the Celtics. Why would we or they send a star to a division rival? Although that isn't a bad haul, all things considered. There's always a team or teams willing to make moves. And two or three years of Kyrie is better than one year of George.

We signed Matt Williams. Doesn't look like a two way contract either. He will fight for the 15th spot.
