Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions
I argued in favor of Pat's contract because I had a hunch he was on the cusp of a big improvement in his 3-point shooting. That's one skill that can improve a lot well into a player's career, and his shot was first starting to look really promising in the bubble. That said, no way I'm giving him a huge raise. He's a textbook example of the type of role player who has a few really good years from ages ~27-30, but he's not gifted enough overall to be a big positive outside of that sweet spot between athletic prime and experience prime.
Wut we've got here is... faaailure... to communakate.

And he's great to have in the area his contract is now, something in the 5-8 mil per year window. Move him up to 15 mil per year and that's not so true anymore because now he might be costing you another contributing player as well and as good as he is now it's not like there's a big improvement that can come or change in usage to get more out of him so to speak.

Grayson can go get that 10 million from another team (trade). Pat & Bobby are key dogs.

TBH, I don't love the Gray Allen extension. You're either investing that much in a sixth man while you're around the luxury tax threshold, or you're pricing him into being a starter, & pushing Middleton up to the 3, crowding out a potential 3&d specialist to cover star big wings, i.e. Leonard, Durant, James, etc.
If Pat got under 10, I think I'd re-sign him for the 6th man spot, and flip Gray. Bobby's demonstrating he can be a starter for you, he's still got father time on his side, and we must have made a promise to get the discount this year; so he gets payroll priority. If you need to clear further space, deal DiVo at the deadline in addition to Brook by the offseason.
The priorities, imo, are: 1. Bobby, 2. 3&d big wing, 3. Pat on the prime real estate discount.

I think Bobby as a starter is the squeeze. Moving Middleton to SF is fine. But putting Bobby as 4 with a bigger contract pushes Brook or another Center out of the payroll and forces Giannis to guard those guys. Portis isn’t going to take on Embiid, Jokic, or other bigs effectively.
I still like Bobby, but for me has to be a 6th man and we still need a serviceable big center to log 20-25 min a game in the regular season.

Pre hamstring Middleton you could argue was (or at least could be) a 2 but that was a while ago so yeah this conversation is kinda baffling with this "move Middleton to the 3" talk.LikeABosh wrote:Middleton has always been a 3 wtf
Like what **** position do people think he's been?

Imbiid no longer scores or plays in the post, all he does is shoot mid range jumpers. Bobby would have no issues with him, but Imbiid will have a tough time guarding Bobby.

wtf our starting lineup in the finals was: Holiday, Middleton, Tucker, Giannis, Lopez. Khris was a 3 when we lost.

So far we've won at a high rate w/ Bobby as the C & the big 3 available. Portis can bang and guard outside. Giannis drops down to aid in rim protecting. And when it's not enough, we can find another rim protector like Brook as a ring chaser. Heck, maybe get him back on the cheap in a year. In other instances go small, w/ Giannis at the c. All bases would be pretty much covered.

PJ was guarding Booker for the most part when Jrue was on Paul, wasn't he? I have heard that you are what you can defend.
ETA: Not into labels though, but we were starting a 1/3, 3/4, 3/5, 1/5, and a 5.

There was rotation, but Tucker was typically guarding the Durants or whoever the best offensive wing was throughout the playoffs. If anyone is the 2 between Tucker & Middleton, it's Middleton. Tucker's a 4/3. Middleton is a 2/3.

Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions
middleton is a 2/3. plays both sides of the floor as a 2/3. every blue moon he goes to the 4/5 and even more rare the 1.
the argument that he is a 2 vs 3 is like so 1980s
modern basketball has 4 positions
the 1
the 2/3
the 4/5
the 5
you dont have to have all 4 positions on the floor at once
we currently start 3 guys at the 2/3 and 2 guys at the 4/5. we dont start a 1 or a 5 currently
