I mean, it absolutely makes sense for Indy. Buddy has played well in Indy, but He’s still been a net negative on the court due to his terrible defensive production. Add in that Indy has drafted Mathurin, Duarte, and Nembhard in the last two years, acquired Nesmith and Haliburton, and moving Buddy to clear minutes and clear his contract could make sense. Like, Indy shouldn’t pay to do it, but LA seems to value Buddy so it would make sense a deal could be worked.
As for Myles? Well, he’s a pending unrestricted free agent that Indy has tried to trade in the past (for Hayward) and tried to replace with younger players more recently (the Ayton offer sheet, and the acquisitions/drafting of Jackson and Jalen Smith, and even Goga). Ben if Indy wants to keep him, there’s no guarantee they can, as he’s unrestricted and can sign anywhere for anything. Add in that a ton of teams will have $20+m in cap space this upcoming season, and there is a valid point that Indy might be best served to simply get something of value for Turner before he hits unrestricted free agency and could leave for nothing in return to Indy.
Otherwise, yeah, Westbrook would be a clear buyout. That would suck. But getting to clear Buddy’s extra year and get more playing time for all the young guards makes sense. And if Indy could add future firsts, that’s a great asset to add in the post Lebron/AD years. Maybe they get another star? But maybe it takes awhile. They were drafting high in the lotto for quite a few years in the end of the Kobe years before Lebron came to town. And with Indy having added a ton of young guys on rookie contracts and owning 3 1sts in next years draft, having them spaced further out in 2027 and 2029 would actually make value sense. And, Indy could always retrace those picks for other fits as trades come available in the next couple years.
Obviously, Indy would want both picks, and as least protected as possible. There’s no need to give them away. Indy doesn’t have to pay to move Buddy, as they can live with him. But there’s clear value reason to consider a Russ for Myles/Buddy type trade for Indy. Especially as Indy isn’t projected to be very good at all this year.
