What a sloppy, slow, amateur looking match between Ruby and Hayter. My word. That couldn’t end fast enough.

Good show.

ETA - Dustin Rhodes last few matches have pretty rough, perhaps he should start transitioning into a non-wrestling roll.

I wasn’t a fan. Besides some pretty mediocre to bad matches, setting up Team Taz as Punk’s next program and The Blondes vs MJF are both massive duds and DOA for me.

As you mentioned, the Rhodes match was rough. Ruby’s singles debut was not good though I put that more on Hayter and the Mox/Minoru match didn’t live up to the hype. Seemed like they were short on time. Towards the end you could see Aubrey tell Mox over and over again the time.

I loved the little exchange between Tony Schivonne and Adam Cole :)

An okay show. I liked the Punk segment. Seemed like he was ambling around during his promo for a bit but then got it together. I like Punk v Hobbs. Taz is more than worthy of standing opposite him on the mic as well. That kind of feud could put Hobbs on the map as a legitimate main eventer and I’m here for it — easily one of my favorites in AEW.

The Elite segment had too much going on, as always. Kenny, the Bucks and Callis need to be out there — everyone else doesn’t. Cutler, Nakazawa, Gallows and Anderson are all distractions. They’re deterrents on the screen and manage to make these kinds of segments look sillier than they need to. Solid promo by Cole, and setting him vs Frankie for next week is a solid match.

MJF vs Pillman *almost* feels like a step down him for MJF, but the energy that arena had, and with his mom at ringside it gave it a good feel. Should be fine as long as it’s not drawn out forever. Great promo by MJF and just happy to see he’s away from Jericho, and I like him much better away from the Pinnacle also.

The show definitely had it's warts but I like where we're going in the Punk v Team Tazz, Danielson v Omega, Black v Cody and Ruby v DMD. I also really, really like Cole as the main promo in The Elite.

Meltzer on what McMahon had in mind for Cole...

“They were going to bring him up. The idea was to turn Keith Lee heel, have Adam Cole be his manager. Probably with a different name because of the last name Cole...kind of like a Lio Rush / Bobby Lashley thing, where you have this little guy who is a big talker, and he hides behind this big massive African American guy.”

“That was kind of the dynamic that they were looking for for him, more as a manager [than] a wrestler.”

I'm guessing he doesn't know how to fully wrestle yet considering I've never seen him have a match.

Amare_1_Knicks wrote:I haven’t seen a ton of Adam Cole in NXT or elsewhere. So I looked at him and his debut with somewhat ‘fresh’ eyes. Right off that bat, the guy looks like somebody — like a star. Even if he’s somewhat undersized, he looks bigger/more like a grown man than the Bucks do, and has a better overall look than Omega.

A few posters above me have mentioned him being a great promo and I’ll take your word for it, because as soon as he took the mic, I was like “okay, this guys a smooth talker.” Love his theme song too; TK has done such a great job in securing great songs in AEW. In the early to mid 2000’s you could listen to an anthology of wrestling music, but somewhere in the past 15 years that’s kind of been thrown by the way side.

He's always had the charisma and a great facial look - though obviously skinny - to be a big star. I always thought it was his time in Japan that made him a top in-ring performer. Before that, he was nothing special in the ring. For Vince to really want to turn him into a manager when he's physically and probably mentally at the zenith of his career... one of the top stars in the business and having been that while working for Vince - that might be the tipping point for Vince's reputation going forward - and the beginning of the end for him.

And I'm sure with Christian Cage on the roster, Brian Cage would have been relegated to just "Brian"

Changing Cole's name would have been the ultimate slap in the face given how over the "ADAM COLE BAY BAY" thing is.

But yeah, what a terrible idea from WWE creative. You take one of the best workers and talkers in your entire company and ask him to manage a guy he's a better performer than. And that's nothing against Keith Lee. He's great. But Adam Cole has arguably been one of the best wrestlers in the world the past few years, and certainly one of the five best in WWE. Even taking WWE as a whole, who has been better than Cole the past couple of years? Gargano maybe. Walter? Not sure who else would even make the list.

Yeah I mean just make them a tag team and let Cole do the bulk of the promos. This has been a standard WWE trope forever. And if Lee breaks out and deserves a big singles push you could use him more as an MVP type who can still wrestle regular matches. Helps you with a month-long program where Cole can wrestle Lee's PPV opponent every cycle so the program doesn't get stale.

Dynamite beat RAW in the 18-49 demo for the first time, ever. "Cole and Danielson not a big loss". Lol.

I think Danielson is a loss, jury is way out on Cole who wasn't even on the main roster.

Also need to see if AEW can sustain this or this was an expected bleed over.

But I'm all for serious competition. WCW product sucked in the Monday Night Wars other than the first couple months of the NWO, but they got numbers and it forced WWF to up their game. Like in all arenas competition is a good thing.

1.3 million + viewers/rating for this weeks dynamite — the second highest ever (I believe behind only their debut episode). They certainly have a lot of buzz and are trending upward with the influx of all these big names. Their next TV special night do close to 2 million (or at least 1.5+).

Yea Cole as a manager with a name change, there's just no excusing any of that. Vince's love affair with body builder type has just gone overboard.
