Mr Robot

Spoiler:
I have still not processed all of those events but I just want to say hammering the two biggest reveals of the show with M83...In 2019 this is the most obvious “emotional reveal” soundtrack and Outro has been used 5000 times to do this in the last 7 years or whatever but I don’t care. I used to explain when m83 was completely unknown that it is brilliant movie music and somebody did it...in arguably my favorite show. I’m weak.

Spoiler:
As a rule, I try to avoid anything about the story of a show in articles, etc. So for like Chernobyl, I obviously remembered the basis of the story but did not refresh my memory as I watched to end up seeing what was real, what was fabricated for TV.

Anyways, with Mr. Robot, I recall seeing small bits of stuff about Elliott's disorder but the whole time I was just like, "OK there is some psychological truth to it but obviously they're drumming up most of this but I avoided reading too much further into that. I didn't really think it was any sort of real disorder.

Well after reading about dissociative identity disorder at the end...wow.

And yeah, as of halfway through last night's show I was pretty convinced that the "obvious" iterative universes thing that we had mostly thought was happening was the case. Beautiful.

Maybe I'm kinda wrapped up in the day after and I also write code for a living...but that show went from, "wow this is going to be incredible," to "I'm just watching to keep up with this," to, "that might've been my favorite TV show of all time" real fast. It may dethrone LOST on my power rankings.

The Irishman feels like someone put all the cutscenes from a GTA game back to back to back and called it a movie.

Then came Return of the Jedi. You still had the same set of great characters, but George Lucas introduced the Ewoks. Now the Ewoks were cool, don't get me wrong, but they really were there to launch a commercial enterprise of toys.

Then you had the three middle films (1-3) that were completely ruined by casting terrible actors (Hayden Christiansen and Natalie Portmann)

The Force Awakens was pretty cool, but again it was because they brought back the original 1977 crew (Han, Chewie, Leia). But then the follow-up was a terrible script, and no Han Solo.

I'll see this new one, but expecting it to be a mess.

Natalie Portman is an outstanding actress. Don't blame her for the awful dialogue that basically every character had in those movies.

Saw the new Star Wars and honestly it I enjoyed it.

If you liked the TLJ you're definitely going to HATE this movie.

If you hated TLJ you're going to forgive the 1st hour of the movie that's a bit of a jumbled mess just jamming in the final big bad and other things because well that's done to pretty much give the big middle finger to TLJ (and if you're like me you'll be ok with that)

2 half of the movie is pretty strong imo.

I wouldve probably hoped for better finale a couple years ago but they had to dig out from the mess that immediately proceeded it

Natalie Portman peaked in The Professional.

Watched a couple episodes of The Witcher on Neflix and the main thing it did is make me want to go play The Witcher 3 game again.

Saw Star Wars tonight. Generally thought it was alright.

Spoiler:
I agree with people who see it as more of a return to the classic SW arc instead of whatever Rian Johnson was trying to accomplish with TLJ. Ultimately, no matter how you feel about the decisions Rian Johnson made in TLJ, the rebukes in ROS make an already disjointed plot even worse in that respect.

Some random thoughts:

- Seriously, the Palpatine redux? I didn't think they'd dare to do something as simple as effectively repeating, almost beat-for-beat, ROTJ. From Rey being related to a Sith, to that Sith trying to bait her to kill him, to the big bad of the series redeeming himself in the end, to Palpatine being killed (OR WAS HE??????). It was almost shocking to me that it was that much of a repeat.

Not that I didn't enjoy it! I still found much of the film visually stunning. And clearly, they've set up a path if they want to move the series forward. There's an exactly zero percent chance we won't see more movies in this series.

- Don't like Rey and Kylo kissing, tbh. I would preferred sibling affection instead of romance. Plus that's a bummer for Friend Zone Finn!

- Lando really only needed to grin and laugh while driving the Falcon. That's all he basically brought to this movie. And that's fine with me.

- I enjoyed Luke, Leia and Han this movie. Thought they were great in short spurts.

Ultimately, I think this trilogy was a disappointment. It didn't advance the story in any meaningful way. It didn't teach us anything new about the Force or the Star Wars universe. It basically retold the same story with many of the same character arcs.

What I want to see a trilogy that isn't about a damn Imperial Force lead by a Sith trying to crush a Rebellion led by a Jedi with all sorts of family implications.

The Mandalorian is a lot more interesting to me than this trilogy has been, tbh.

Admirable job trying to patch together and clean up massive problems from a story/plot perspective. Probably won’t see a major studio give free reign on story to a director for the 2nd movie ever again without having an overall story arc down on paper for that director to follow. Lol, shouldn’t have happened in the first place with a multi billion dollar franchise. So funny.

..is my oldest friend. Some quality bits in the movie.

This is an understandable take so long as you've never seen "Black Swan," "Jackie," "Closer," "Annihilation," "Vox Lux..."

Hated maybe three things about Force Awakens
Hated maybe nine things about Last Jedi
Hated maybe five things about Skywalker, but Palpatine is dead so I was out from the start.

These were all fan films with no new ideas or subtext or mythology. As far as I'm concerned they never happened

Totally agree. Watched the finale last night and they totally stuck the landing. Just an outstanding final season and solidified their place in the TV hall of fame. Makes me want to go back and rewatch season 1.

I enjoyed the new Star Wars. My expectations were low. I realize they have to appease fans from all over the world and different age groups. I understand wanting something new but that’s not what this franchise is. It’s a movie about family dynamics set in space.

They need to put me on their payroll because I have been telling tons of family and friends to watch it.

After S1 it apparently:
-was almost too satisfying of an end to the season
-on USA, a network, of which was part of all other channels getting buried by Netflix, etc
-some of the timing of the releases was off
-they chose Prime to stream it in hopes they’d get more people on their website but apparently only Netflix stands up as being able to draw viewers to binge and then go to your network for later seasons.

Add that all up and like nobody watched the final few seasons, which IMO are every bit as good as the ones we put up as the best of the decade (GoT, Breaking Bad, you name it).

Spoiler:
I re-watched a few key scenes in S1 and yeah, you kinda say, “duh!”

I'm not sure the new trilogy was about anything other than making more Star Wars movies. It's completely without ambition.

I agree. This was continuation of the same story. They were appeasing generations of old and new fans and trying to meet as many as expectations possible.

I would imagine the new trilogy will be ‘more ambitious’ in the sense that the story will be new. But it wouldn’t surprise me if they stick to the same saccharine formula. Like ‘The Mandalorian’, it has no edge to it. But it’s a Disney product so I don’t expect it to.

If you haven’t already check out ‘The Expanse’. That’s ambitious.
