Official Scottie Barnes Thread 3

I don't think Raptors fans genuinely know what we have. I hated the pick at first, but his development has just been bonkers. His personality is great, he's a dog on the court and he's so fking versatile.

He has that rare combination of natural physical gifts, raw talent, great work ethic, natural drive and skill.

It will be a pleasure watching him grow his game over the next several years.

I was on a rollercoaster with Barnes throughout the draft cycle. I actually loved his game for the most part just because he was so unselfish, but the parts that scared me or put me off were when analysts were calling him a 'no level' scorer.

At FSU he was also coming off the bench and not showing much shooting range, so he was a bit like OG in his first year at Indiana. A really compelling player in flashes.

The part that really worried me was all the clapping on defense and trashtalking people. I was like, Toronto guys are so reserved and don't engage in anything. Scottie is not going to fit in here. But, as the next generation, having him as that vocal leader and playing with that edge could bring in more of a new Bad Boys era. I kind of hope he can be like KG in Minny eventually.

Man, reading comments here and other threads and folks have such high expectations of Scottie. I hope everyone has enough sense that if he doesn’t become the next Giannis that people don’t send garbage personal messages or whatever else the other guys get.

I hope he improves significantly this year but this goes as far as specific expectations I have for a year 2 player.

It’s a virtual certainty it’s going to happen lol. There’s a contingent of fans that get so emotionally attached to individual players or the team and if they fail to live up to expectations they will lash out against them directly. You saw it with Siakam and it’ll be worse for Barnes.

Siakam had a very easy time outperforming expectations.

Barnes will never be able to do it unless he becomes the best player in the world.

I don't know about that. I said it last preseason and keep saying it... He is going to be a star.
