Re: 2025 Offseason Season Thread Vol. 2
Although with the way Shams tweeted it, it seems like we declined to place ALL of Jaime, Jovic, Highsmith, 20thpick + other assets in the trade with KD (not just 1 of them).

He's not a better player but has a higher ceiling.
Now look if someone got to Jalen Green and got him to care about defense, fix his shot selection and play team basketball he could be a really impactful player for a contender. Physically he has the tools. But his habits suck. There's no reason he can't be a plus wing defender.
He's young so maybe he can change and play ball the right way but I doubt it. I think he just cares about getting buckets and that's it.
That's not saying that I want to pay Herro 50 mil a season. Their situations are mutually exclusive, we don't really need to compare them.
No GM in the league prefers Herro over Green. And there is no need to compare, Jalen is better.
Just a week ago, i posted on this very thread lets do the following trade:
Herro
Robinson
#20 pick
For Durant
We avoid the contract extension talks with Herro, we dont get sucked into overpaying him at 50 million per season
All of you said thats an overpay, some acted like Herro was untradeable and untouchable
What did phoenix get? An extraordinarily better offer than the “overpay” offer i proposed.
A better player with a higher ceiling in Herro
Dillon Brooks
Th #10th pick
And five seconds
I think you might be only one that thinks Green is better than Herro right now
Last season, Herro scored more, shot better, had more assists and had more rebounds and was way more efficient. Herro TS 60 % compared to 54 %
Saying that, I wouldn't want to pay either player

I’m bummed not going to lie. This front office is stuck in the mud. DeRozan can’t be an option

Herro is better than Green currently. Sure, Green may have more 'potential' due to his physical gifts, but right now he's not better than all-star Tyler.

They unloaded green, who is an inefficient one way player with below average defense, in return for kd. Kd is surrounded by athletic switchable defenders, something he didn't have in Phoenix after playing with Beal and book. I would not be surprised if he hinted at green to be jettisoned.
I expect wiggins for derozan rumors to be bandied about next.
Keep Wiggins and trade Herro unless Miami can get Herro to accept significantly less than he is eligible for in an extension. Herro is worth ~$30M/year, but not $40+M/year.
Unlikely. The team will go all in on herro. And going by some of the pods I've listened to and read on message boards, heat fans are all in on Tyler more than any other heat player right now.
Yikes if true.
I like Herro, but not at the extension he is eligible for. Give me DeRozan at $48M over 2 seasons any time.

If we trade the 20th pick for Derozan, that should be all of the proof that we need the FO not willing to trade the 20th pick for Derozan is a lie lol.

Agree. The selling point is the mystery and potential.
I still think there is a chance this deal gets expanded with J Green headed elsewhere.

Bro it’s Shams lol it doesn’t get more legit. They wouldn’t include any of Jovic Jaime 20th pick or fuxking Highsmith. Idc which way you lean on it but you know that’s wild.
The way it is worded is suggesting that they weren't willing to trade any draft picks which makes a deal impossible for the Suns. We're not disputing Shams. Just the width of the Heat stinginess. He listed all assets as off the table. Unless he meant that PHX wanted all those guys in a deal plus picks since Ware was off the table and the Heat said no to that offer.

Emotions can be fickle. Deep down we all know KD to the Heat would have only set us back even further moving forward.
The frustration is driven by the delusion and desperation. I get it, but nothing will change until they find their next young star to build around.
38 year old KD wasn't getting us over the hump.

Haywood Highsmith should NEVER be untouchable. Ever. That’s bull****.

Tale a deep breath.
Just like with Lilard - we dogged a bullet here.
We need a deep rebuild, not a 37YO patch.
It's time to start a proper roster build from the ground up.

Add an nba journeyman who was in and out of the rotation all year, a guy who completely lost his spot in the rotation this year, another young guy who lost his starting job pretty quickly, and a pick at 20 (which I don’t think has ever produced a legit star) to Bam/Herro/Ware as this teams untouchables

I’d rather trade the pick for a 2nd this year and 2027 1st to help out with future stepien.

I wouldnt want green nor herro on my team other than as a cost controlled 6th man.
Herro is much more skilled player while Green is the physical toolsy player. Problem is that both guys are low iq knuckleheads on and off the court.

So long as the rest of the package didn't include Ware or Wiggins, Miami should have made/accepted that offer, imo.

Which is why we are probably misunderstanding what Sham's wrote.
