It makes no sense that Denver has a deal with the Nets but is letting the Knicks meet with him LOL.

Anybody agree or disagree?

Melo won’t extend in New Jersey.

I’ve heard that a few times today. More as the situation develops.

Dempsey, Tomason and sometimes Hochman.
The first two in particular have been as spot on with all this as anyone.

someone plz explain to me why melo would decide to accept a trade to a non-playoff team this season? For all the talk about how the knicks can't afford to wait till the off-season to get him, carmelo AND the nets actually can and should wait if they want to come together. Melo going to the nets now, means no playoffs for him and i don't think there has ever been a supserstar player who has CHOSEN to not play in the playoffs. For the nets, they likely would not have to give up as much during the summer because by that time, they can actually be a realistic option for melo since every team would be starting with a clean slate for the season. He could talk with the nets management and actually picture a team that might make the playoffs and beyond for next season as opposed to going now, where he would be wasting the rest of this season for no reason since they have no shot at a winning record or playoffs. To me, there is no chance a deal with the nets gets done now because it's not beneficial to anyone honestly. He either becomes a knick or stays with denver as I see it...

Listening to all of the trolls means that the Knicks are back.

Remember that you can't hate something you don't care about.

And it's obvious that people care. They just don't want to admit it.

If only detective @FisolaNYDN and private @NYPost_Berman were in LA with binoculars in the bushes, we'd know exactly where Melo is

If these are the FO's of the NBA anyone can do it cuz this is foolishness. This is a cow for beans ass trade. They gonna give up all their youth for Melo and a Chauncey Billups who has no interest in the Nets. And it doesn't make sense that Melo would go for the money when he could stay comfy in Denver and get the money. At the end of the day we come out winners however this happens. When it's all said and done the Nets and Nuggets will lose all cred in the NBA. One is a flake and the others are monkeys driving a car. This is all foolish. If I was them I'd chill til summer and make a deal because they have no leverage.

NYK Dolemite wrote:Melo won't meet with the Knicks -- Seriously can someone tell me why Denver would permit Carmelo Anthony to talk to the Knicks?

I've yet to hear a good explanation.

Simple. Denver tells Melo that he can meet the Nets FO. Now if they denied him to talk with Knicks FO then it's obvious they do not care for Melo's agenda at all. This could anger him causing the Denver FO to think he will refuse to help in Net negotiations and refuse to even think about their extension.

If they grant Nets permission then they have to grant the Knicks.

Not simple. He's a Nugget and the Nuggets have zero reason to allow him to have the Knicks articulate a plan to surround Melo with talent, cp3 etc. -- it's just insane. Only way Melo meets with the Knicks is if a trade is done and they need him to formally assent to an extension.

Melo and the Knicks have nothing to talk about other than ways to make life worse for Denver. Just do not see this happening at all.

Regarding his part in Net negotiations -- he's not there to help Denver. His only role in meeting with other teams would be if Denver has a deal with the Nets and the deal is contingent upon him extending.

He's not a free agent -- there's zero reason for the Nuggets to assent to pimp him out for recruiting trips.

Actually, they are in the bushes together. Isola is role playing as Marbury and whispering sweet nothings into Berman's ear.

#Cavs thought they were close to 3-way deal w/NJ & Den previously. Den pulled out, per source, b/c it wanted all draft picks to themselves

Jason Lloyd is the Cavs beat writer.

Let's play /....../ NIGERIAN ROULETTE

Before we even have a firm deal ... let's tell a key potential trading partner that we want all the draft picks

Smart... very very Ujiri.... New term for stupid negotiting.... THAT'S SO UJIRI!

We're now in the 11th hour. No more wiggle room.

If Melo rejects a NJ trade, what happens to his value? Right now they can comfortably get Chandler, Gallo + pick from us. Bare minimum.

When Melo rejects a NJ trade, his value becomes nothing. He'll have all but declared that he is ready to ride or die with the new CBA. If he rejects NJ, where else is he going to go? He wont be rented-- and there will be only us left after the dust.

And by then, Denver will lose every bit of leverage it had left. 100% book this:

If Melo rejects a NJ trade, Donnie will offer close to nothing for Melo. Pretty much the Chandler + pick deal.

This is such an unbelievably risky gamble by Denver. I honestly can't believe it. It is too late for Melo to reject a trade + recover from it. Donnie isn't dumb, he'll pull Felton, Fields, Moz off the table if Melo rejects NJ.

The Denver FO is doing the right thing. Chandler, Gallo and a pick still isn't full value for a top 10 player. If a potential deal arises to give to full value (ie a top prospect and 4 draft picks) then you have to explore it. It's idiotic not to when the potential payoff is that much better. The NY deal isn't a great deal for Denver. It's a "something is better than nothing" deal. I would hope my front office would chase the great deal first.

Now if the deal doesn't go down and NY tries one of the super lowball offers, like Chandler and a pick, Denver still has potential rental offers that can top that. They can't try to hold NY over the fire but they won't be forced to accept just anything as long as someone is willing to rent Melo, and Houston and Dallas clearly are.

Nets and Nuggets using each other--both know Melo is going to New York but want NY to give up as much as possible--for both their sakes...

If Asshola was playing Marbury there would be more in Berman's ear or other orifices than "sweet nothings"
