Karl has several ties to the Kings assistant coaches, Chris Mullin, and the GM. The team is out West and it's laden with veterans. If Karl is choosing between us and the Kings, he's going to the Kings.

It's disappointing because he was certainly the most accomplished coach, but part of me believes we never had a shot to begin with and were probably just used as leverage (hence the open tweeting). We shouldn't be in a rush to hire anyone for the sake of it. Hennigan should take his time and evaluate all options to find the best coach possible for this team.

If I was karl I wouldn't wanna go coach that horrible kings franchise in a stacked western conference and that owner. If he goes their F em anyways and I can easily see him clashing with that ownership group within a year and a half.

I'm not saying coming to the magic is a dream job but that kings ownership group is a mess.

I'm talking about the fans, especially the ones who have been tweeting him.

I like Karl, but I'm pretty certain his social media campaign has turned off our organization (if they even notice) + the fact that they probably have more insight into Karl

Well boo. I'm not mad about Karl though because i saw it coming (as most of us did) and don't think he was insincere about liking us or our talent but that job may fit what he wants better. That seems to make Skiles more likely imo, because i don't know if we really will want to wait until the summer. I still think we should though, because Skiles will be there and there may be other good options then as well.

Oh please we didn't get played or used or whatever you want to call it. Karl has been begging for jobs at every opportunity for the past couple years. He just really wants to coach again and isn't being overly picky about it. He did the same social media thing to kings fans months ago. Before that he was dropping hints about the Pelicans and loving Davis. The Kings just finally stepped up with us suddenly emerging as a threat after firing vaughn. If the Magic were interested in him and actually called I'm sure it wouldn't be so one sided. If anything we got played by hennigan with his talk of wanting a proven coach and borrego's status being day by day. All PR nonsense... I'll be very surprised if borrego doesn't finish the season.

Honestly, it isn't a huge deal to me. Yeah, I'd like George Karl, but honestly outside of the prestige factor I actually prefer Skiles for our team right now.

From GB

Cousins' day-to-day agent, Jarrin Akana, worked with Karl in Denver and was re-assigned from assistant coach to scout when Karl took over for coach Jeff Bzdelik in 2005. Dan Fegan, Cousins' lead agent, represented Karl's son, Coby, as a player for years before he was eventually replaced. That circle, by all accounts, has been against the notion of adding Karl.

To that end, D'Alessandro's ability to change their minds is key here as well. While it appears D'Alessandro is endorsing Karl with or without the support of his team's top player or his representatives, he would prefer to have agreement on that front if Ranadive ultimately approves the hiring. There is some concern within the organization, however, that hiring Karl could create substantive conflict going forward when it comes to Cousins.

That's cool, they can have Karl and they can trade us Cousins when we sign Malone :D

^funny i posted that snippet in the gb thread about the Kings being in talks with Karl, then a few minutes later game6 made it a thread. That kid loves making threads lol.

I think it's an interesting wrinkle that Dan Fegan could be an irritant to Karl getting that job in SAC. He's the one who got Dwight outta here, and it makes me wonder if he has plans to get Boogie out of there and he doesn't want Karl because they would possibly have success under him. He could play it the same way with DMC...get in his ear and tell him how other teams will consult him and they never should have gotten rid of their coach without talking to him...just like it was with Dwight and not being consulted before getting rid of Courtney Lee and other players he liked. They could sell him some dreams of a bigger market and how they don't know what they are doing and won't ever win anything, like with Dwight. Idk, Karl better pick the right one because he may have some issues there if that is true.

Cousins isn't a bitch like Dwight. Dude has matured dramatically over the years, and I don't see him turning his back on Sac Town until he, by his own accord, is completely exhausted of the repetitive cycle of incompetent ownership. A coach like Karl may be able to change the atmosphere in the locker room, but if these rumors are true, he doesn't want anything to do with Karl.

Disclaimer: Cousins is in my top 3 favorite players in the NBA right now.

Some of ya'll are being ridiculous. "We got played". We simply don't know enough. Maybe the Magic are in the process of narrowing down their list before reaching out to potentials. Maybe Karl is on that list, maybe he isn't. Maybe if the Magic reach out Karl will interview with both teams and it'll be his choice.

Could Karl have used the Magic job opening to pressure the Kings into negotiations? Sure, maybe. Or maybe he is legitimately interested in both teams and Sacramento reached out first. Maybe the "discussions" aren't nearly as serious as they're making it out to be. How often do we see writers throw our rumors like it's fact, only for NOTHING to happen. Could easily see this as Sacramento establishing an INTERVIEW and writers going off like it's a guaranteed thing that Karl will accept and coach the Kings.

Just take a step back, relax a little. Get your mind on other stuff and wait until REAL news hits the wire before you lose your mind at the front office's ineptitude.

yeah i do think DMC has more of a mind of his own, but just looking at the agent and his motivation.

Orlando should turn up the pressure and interview Karl. No harm in a conversation.

You all seem to be taking my "we got played" comment way too far  . I'm pretty relaxed.

I meant it more in the context of Karl is playing twitter games than any serious, deep feeling type of commentary.

However, I still stand by my comments that his social media campaign still probably turned off our front office and the fans tweeting him seemed to have something invested in his attention.

Either way we go, I'm good.

You can now direct your exasperation elsewhere.

After this they'd be lucky to keep Corbin. They lifted his interim tag at the end of December and signed him to coach for the rest of the season. Randive is such a bitch. He got scared Karl was coming to Orlando.

The only thing I admire about the Kings is them having McLemore.

I kid. I feel so much more comfortable getting a new coach this summer than now, it just doesn't feel right.

I personally think cousins can't wait to leave Sacramento. He knows that he is the only thing that team has going for it and it isn't likely to get better with their ownership and management. I say as soon as he becomes an UFA he's gone.

You're right. The Kings' owner is running that organization like a corporation. That might work if he was knowledgeable on basketball matters. The problem is that he isn't. So, he's doing things like going in their war room on draft night and overruling everyone he's paying to make basketball decisions. Now, he's essentially welching on his promise to give a guy a shot until the end of the season to prove his worth as head coach.

If I were running the Magic, George Karl wouldn't be my first pick for coach (Skiles would be). But, I feel bad if George Karl goes out there. That owner is toxic and impatient.
