Re: 2020 Badgers Football
It sucks, Coan was really good last year. On the other hand I'm anxious to see Mertz, assuming he wins the job.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Bummer for Coan, but we're all thinking the same thing.

Re: 2020 Badgers Football
Chryst should troll Lippo and name Danny Vanden Boom as starting QB.

Re: 2020 Badgers Football
I think a good point was made that the worst part about this is we are now one COVID wave away from being down to Wolf/VandenBoom for 21 days. Hopefully Mertz has already gotten it...
Beyond that, I have always been accepting of the job Coan did but don't have any problems getting to see what Mertz can do.

You think Mertz is afraid of COVID?
COVID needs to be afraid of Mertz...

I think there's an infection in this forum cause all I see is posters who are Graham-positive.

That was in jest but I think like half of the roster already has been reported to. Wouldn't be a stretch...

Re: 2020 Badgers Football
Sounds like Chimere Dike (WR) and Nick Herbig (OLB) are the freshman breakout candidates for this year.

I mean, if there are no lingering symptoms and completely healthy, I would prefer to have had it than not at this point

Re: 2020 Badgers Football
Has Mertz been officially listed as the starter?

He's been working with the starters. I don't think they would do that unless he was the starter.

Re: 2020 Badgers Football
So Groshek/Watson is the starting RB combo. Nothing really unexpected, it seems like Julius Davis really has not emerged. Berger looked interesting in a couple of highlights from practice. It'll be a functional backfield if Watson has made the steps they've talked about.

Re: 2020 Badgers Football
The -19.5 line seems too high for me without knowing what the offense is gonna look like. That said, I am getting on the Badgers -6.5 first quarter line.

Both Badgers sport, especially before they've established themselves in the season, ALWAYS make me go, "hmmm I don't see this on paper." Especially with this matchup where I think Illanoy returns enough guys and has Peters who was good enough to make a few big plays on the single coverage the Badgers love...but the efficiencies which create the spread always like the Badgers, and after a few games it is always like, "duh...why didn't I assume they'd crush that team?"

Re: 2020 Badgers Football
I'm wondering if the amount of actually run plays drastically changes this year. It's pretty obvious that we don't need to feed Taylor or Gordon or the like this year...maybe it is just a combo of all the RBs getting the ball out of the backfield on passes, jet sweeps with Pryor or Guerendo, etc.
I know, a fairly obvious take, but 5-10 years ago, football was different, we probably would just say, "whatever. Pound Groshek and Nakia. We still have a good line." But Chryst has modernized the offense as much as you can with their running game and we'll have to let Mertz cook. Maybe no superstar WR but a very capable group + Ferguson and interesting pass-catching RBs.
