Quicks article about the trade and the Blazers future is pretty spot on. Like with almost every head scratching move the Blazers have made in the FO to ownership to roster management, it’s all been with the “just trust us on this one” sell to the fanbase and media.
No real clear path or blueprint on what their plan may be, just that we’re gonna do things and you guys (fans and media) need to blindly trust them… but with such a terrible first trade, Cronin is really setting the bar high for that trust.

While I hope, and agree with those that think there must be a second big part coming (CJ or Dame), I also wouldn't be surprised if we continue to be the same $h*t-$how going forward with Dame/CJ/Simons. Really hope we aren't done.

In a week or two, Blazers will be hitting up their season ticket holders to renew for next season. They have to say they have
a plan

How dare were you to forget about that game-changing 2025 second round pick?

The Clippers don't really need RoCo this season, and with their glut of big 3/4 combo wings, probably won't resign him next season. He was basically salary filler here.
At the very least, we should have involved someone like Utah - traded Roco for Ingles + draft asset, then used Ingles instead of Roco in the Clippers trade. Might have gotten another FRP out of this. I won't be surprised if the Clippers do something similar themselves before the deadline.

Yeah, apparently teams were already calling Clippers for RoCo… which proves to me it was stupid that they added him as salary filler. He could have been sent elsewhere and I think could have garnered a FRP.
Utah wouldn’t have worked tho, their firsts are tied up pretty far out.

Hopefully everyone who wanted Olshey gone is happy now. He never would have made this garbage trade. It’s funny how when people start demanding we get rid of people it never seems to occur to them that the next person might be worse. So great. Since last year We have downgraded the coach, the GM and the roster. Awesome.

At least with Olshey, you knew he wouldn’t do anything to risky or stupid. Now I have no idea what to expect after yesterday.
Olshey was risk adverse but he did a bunch of really stupid things
and as a standalone trade, this is the worst Blazer trade I can remember...but my memory could be bad

It's a bit early to claim for sure that Billups is a worse coach, this is his first season and he hasn't had Dame anywhere near the level he was last season, and on top of that Dame is now out the rest of the season.
We won't know how good or bad a coach Billups is until 2-3 seasons past at least. He is a rookie as far as head coach experience goes and they usually take some time learning the ropes. Even with Stotts at the helm this year at best we would have 3-4 more wins, which wouldn't mean ****.
I also think the biggest Stotts hater mostly had problems with his coaching style in the playoffs that usually was extremely predictable and relied on strategies that tended to work far better in the regular season.

wut??
as a Blazer fan, when I want Portland to fire a bad GM, that means I'm responsible for the bad decisions of Jody Allen and Cronin? That is complete nonsense
I actually wanted RoCo and Powell traded; RoCo more than Powell because I was convinced RoCo would not re-sign with Portland. But I wanted them traded for something that actually made sense. That trade was Cronin's failure, not mine.
seems you're a fan of inertia and paralysis
about the only way that trade makes any sense at all is if the Blazers secretly are hoping Dame will demand a trade because of rotten ownership and incompetent management

lol...really? I'd like to see a link if you have one. I can believe it though, RoCo is kind of a Btume-level glue-guy, with less playmaking but better rebounding and defense
I'll read the link as I'm shaving my head with a cheese grater while chewing on tin foil. I mean, as long as I'm miserable....

From Yahoo and Hoopshype…
Following the acquisition of Covington, several teams called the Clippers and inquired about the possibility of Los Angeles flipping the veteran forward in a trade, HoopsHype has learned.
https://sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/nba-trade-intel-cj-mccollum-115742527.html
I get more upset at wasting assets than I do bad trades. Its ok to sometimes take back a player of lesser value to fit your long term goals of better flexibility… I can get that. What I can’t get it just needlessly throwing in a semi-valuable asset for no discernibly good reason as the team seems to do here.
I can’t see why Portland couldn’t have used other players like Nance to still make it a deal where you send out more than you take in. There had to have been other ways of constructing the deal to accomplish that goal of getting under the tax line… that’s not a terribly hard goal to accomplish as we’ve seen in previous seasons.
Maybe because this is always portland goal each trade deadline, teams are getting more and more brazen about making portland “pay” for this goal since they know Blazers management will make it a priority?

WIZ, or anybody else out there that would know... I have a big question. Doing the trade put us under the tax, so my question is: Do we NOW have any gained abilities with a trade today, vs. before going under the tax? Just curious, and thanks in advance.

not really. Portland isn't far enough under the tax to take advantage of the 175% rule in trades because any significant trade would put them over the tax, not allowing the 175% differential
about the only factor is now the Blazers have an extra 2025 2nd round pick....lol

Re: Woj: RoCo and Powell traded to Clippers for Bledsoe, Winslow, Johnson and 2nd
here is some salt to pour in the fresh wounds:
there is no real gap in talent between Powell and LeVert. But there is a giant gap in talent between Indiana's front office and Portland's because Indiana got a 1st's and two 2nd's while the Blazers got bupkis.
WTF was Cronin thinking?

That certainly does pale in comparison. I was trying to stay as optimistic as I could about getting off this stupid TREADMILL, but you are making it very difficult Wiz, with these FACTS you keep providing.

Read my mind when I looked at this trade.

I’ll be honest…
After letting this one sink in a little bit, and I may be forgetting something, but I am having a very hard time coming up with a worse Blazer trade in a very long time—Especially, if the fallout ends up being Lillard bailing. If that ends up being the case, I feel this is the worst Blazer trade in team history, pound for pound.

You guys are forgetting we're getting LEBRON JR... who will never suit up for us and would probably be a net negative. Damn this is sad.
Somewhere trying not to offend Texas Chuck.
