Actually no. The couldn't handle Bam Adebayo being the main initiator of offense because Drummond and Aldridge were too big and slow. Nets actually brought the game back when KD was at the 5 cuz, he was fleet of foot enough to guard both Bam and any guard (Herro, Gabe Vincent), if the Heat tried to force a switch.
No way you were watching the same game.
Watch the stretch drive again, lots of whistles during crunch time with time outs resulting in more half court offence, bodies start banging a bit more down the stretch and refs have a lower tendency to call fouls towards the end of the game. Our 1-4 could not seal or box out the Heat 1-4, this resulted in making the game more challenging for the Nets and on a few plays it was Durant facing tough contest shots with 2 guys always closing in on him as we couldn’t seal, screen, box or set picks.
What are you talking about? GO watch the game again because this is not right at all.
In crunch time the Nets went small with KD at the 5. The Heat had a 9pt lead with 3 mins left. The defense improved immediately and cut the Nets cut the lead to 2. Seth missed an open 3 and then the Heat had a last second 3 from Strus and got a unlucky bounce offensive board but then the Nets forced a 24sec violation. KD then missed a a 3 that went in and out. IF either KD or Seth were able to hit those 3's the Nets would've won.
The Heat blew the game open because:
1) Drummond and LMA could not deal with Bam. He dragged them out to the perimiter and the Heat ran multiple actions with DHO's and cuts around him. If the Nets shut those down, Bam was too quick for both and was able to get the rim or midrange with ease. Then the Heat did a 2 man game with Herro and Bam in the 4th which lead to back to back to back easy looks(alley-oops etc).
Dedmon was (-8) and Bam was (+12). Why? because Drumm and Aldridge can actually guard Deadmon and the actions the Heat run with Deadmon on the floor were much easier to defend.
2) James Johnson was HORRIFIC at chasing Heat shooters, particularly Max Struss. Johnson is great at guarding big wings but he can't chase guards around because he's not quick enough and sucks at navigating through traffic. It lead to 2 open corner 3's and a wide open 3 at the top of the key.
3) GARBAGE offensive sets(granted some very makeable shot were missed). When Heat went zone we struggled to get KD properly involved at the FT line. Vaughn is OBSESSED with playing Mills as a ball handler even though he struggles to dribble! There was very little dribble penetration because we played far too long with Seth and Mills as the guards. Cam and Bruce Brown were the only ones that could penetrate the zone on a drive/get to the middle of the floor. I can go on and on but I'll just get mad again.
