Re: FIRE WELTMAN
Did Wizards ever have a core of Paolo, Franz, and Suggs? And all their picks?
TDS and AB are potential solid rotational players to movable assets.
JI is a one of the best in league defensive of specialist.
What Wizards team was in this position? And to top it off we have high character guys who work hard to get better because they love basketball.

Let's go back in 2013.
Wizards in 2013-14 passed first round of playoffs led by 20 yeras old Bradley Beal ( and 23 yeras old Wall).
After whooping Bulls in first round 4-1, they played 6 games vs Pacers, who held 1# spot on East and had 4th best record in nba (56-28).
Brad Beal pretty much was best player on the floor whole series, and outplayed George, who was 3 years older and most people viewed him as mega star in making. Again, Beal was 20.
Very next year Wizards once again whoop through first round, beating Raptors 4-0.
In second round they lose 4-2 vs Hawks. Hawks with 60-22 record and best record in nba, Hawks team that had 4 all stars .
Wanna hear another kicker?
They only had Wall for 3 games as he had hand fracture.
Brad Beal, age 21 was best player on the floor again.
Not to mention that Hawks won game 5 on defacto buzzerbeater.
2015-16 was garbage for them ,missed playoffs with 41-41 record, some dumb stuff & injuries.
2016-17 they won 49 games and once again passed first round without much issues (4-2 vs Hawks).
In second round they played 7 games vs Boston. Boston with best record on East.
Beal was 23, Wall was 26.
So, Beal, by age of 23, same age Suggs and Franz are now, at that point collected 35 playoff games and went to second round three times in 4 years. .
Beal was star in making. Wall was one of best PGs in nba.
However, in very next year John Wall's career ( 5 times all star, all nba team, all nba defensive team) was defacto finished. With achillie tear, that lead to more complications, he never recovered.
If you visit old "best young cores" articles, Wizards were always top 5. Brad Beal- Wall duo was proven in playoffs to be good. Their supporting cast was always pile of trash.

Yeah. I forgot how good Wall was.
Him and Deron Williams had some of most ungraceful fall from grace, both peaked in early 20s. And smallest among them ,Chris Paul still plays.
Wall had achilie injury, got infection ,had to do surgery again, than fell at home ?
Guy said he thought about suicide as all that was going on along with death in family (mom, grandom).
Not only that his career was pretty much over, his life fell apart and guy was just 28.

KCP has been a tremendous waste of money. Just a really bad signing in the cap-space summer we were allegedly working toward for years. What makes it even worse is KCP really didn't even address a need for this team. Just redundant skills and diminishing returns on the downside of his career. I was watching the game last night and every time he touched the ball you can't help but think "this guy adds nothing to this team".

Add Gary Harris to the mix who is basically doing cardio and its like watching 5 vs 3. Mosely is so dunce. Idk what he and his Gleague coaching staff see to play BOTH of them at the same time. Every stretch I watch of those two out there is a waste of minutes.

After watching last night’s game can’t help but recall the Windhorst report that Weltman wasn’t even making calls at the deadline.

Re: FIRE WELTMAN
I actually do...I have no problem with a GM who makes some bad moves. I have big problems with a GM who thinks his job doesn't involve CONSTANT analysis with immediate course corrections. Good orgs make mistakes, acknowledge them quickly and dig out before it becomes un-fixable. Those "trades around the margin" are what separate good GMs from inconsequential ones. We have a good core...that's the hard part but just the beginning.

Re: FIRE WELTMAN
What we're witnessing is the consequence of Jeff's actions -- and inaction -- over the past two years after he had Franz, Paolo & Suggs in the bag. He had a treasure-trove of assets -- two lottery picks and more cap space than almost any other team in the league -- and turned those assets into KCP, Black & Jett, while re-signing Isaac, WCJ and Gary Cardio Harris. Your team has no point guard and historically bad shooting and you don't even pick up the phone? 8 years is enough.

Re: FIRE WELTMAN
What's most disappointing about Weltman's MO for me is that it's never been easier to get good shooters in the NBA, especially guards, there are so many of them. If you are willing to live with some defensive shortcomings you can sign a really good one pretty cheaply with half-decent scouting. But we've been completely unable to do this throughout Weltman's time in charge. Houstan and Jett were drafted supposedly to be our shooters, but neither had been good at this at the NBA level. Out of all of his trades and free agent signings Ingles was the only one who was a really reliable shooter and wasn't signed primarily for defence and he was 36 years old. KCP shot a very good percentage from 3 in his previous teams and Harris had some good years from 3 for us in terms of percentage, but both have always been are low volume shooters. We haven't had a guard who can reliably shoot 3s off the dribble since Ross, DJ Augustin and Fournier and neither of them was a Weltman signing.

LaVine makes $45M and even more than that the next two years. It's not as simple as you're making it.
The financial elements are a real thing. This team isn't going to acquire ANYBODY that expensive and launch themselves into the 2nd apron unless that player makes them a no questions asked team capable of winning multiple playoff series.
LaVine isn't that guy for them.

I would gladly trade most of the bench salary to make it happen (and they make a ton). We’re getting nothing out of the bench anyway.

And that would have been totally fine… for this season.
But after this year the financial element is completely blown to hell.
Next year Isaac’s salary decreases significantly.
Moe is expiring. Gary is expiring. Cole only has 1 year left.
Does adding LaVine to this team even win them one playoff series? I’m skeptical.
