Thornwell is a pretty awesome dude.

I was expecting this to be about charity work or something. I guess he's an awesome dude because he played basketball in college?

There are also SOME fans that would take these types of guys at #3.

My question is... what would you give up (future assets, players) to move back up into the lottery and take a 2nd player - keeping Jackson, Ball, or Fox at 3.

The scenario obviously would have to be one that isn't a huge overpay - i feel like a team like the suns or wolves want a young player now - so ill avoid them. but two teams i would target (the two teams that may be looking for a rebuild very soon, could use big assets).. magic, knicks, and dallas. kings could be in at play for #10 ill count them for now for markennen/mitchell's sake.

Possible deals?
Magic - they don't owe anyone any future picks - and they have the raptors one this year. pick's probably won't sway them - or at least we know they covet/regret one man. Dario. Would you do a deal like Dario + future sixers 1st for #6?
Scenario plays out: Grab Fox at 3, Monk at 6. Fox, Monk, Covington, Simmons, Embiid. BBN lives on?

Knicks - Bad Contracts, they got bad contracts. they also owe their own second out from now until 2021. would you take on a bad contract for pick #8? Noah (3 years, max 19 mil) lee (3 years, 12 mil)... ill exclude melo. Would do you Lee + 36 + 39 for #8?
Scenario plays out: Grab Jackson at 3, Grab DSJ at 8.... DSJ Jackson Covington Simmons Embiid

Dallas - also has bad contracts and owes every 2nd til 2020. wes matthews (1 year 17 mil), dwight powell (3 years 10 mil).. excluding barnes. would do you something like 2018 Sixers 1st (top 3 protected, unprotected 2019) for dwight powell, #8 - get cuban gambling on a pick that is likely to dive in value after next season?
scenario plays out: Grab jackson at 3, markennen at 9... Simmons, Jackson , Covington, Markennen, Embiid

Kings - we're all aware of their situation. IMO vlade only makes a deal if he can undo his last botched trade. the sixers would have to squeeze extra buy low assets out of him however. Would you do 2019 kings pick back for #10, McClemore, and right to swap picks in 2018?
Scenario plays out - Grab jackson at 3, mitchell at 10. Simmons, Mitchell, Jackson, Saric, Embiid.

obviously some are more far fetched then others - but general idea is to keep 3 and trade into the top 10.

Assuming the 76ers selected Jackson, I'd trade Saric, Okafor and Justin Anderson for any one of picks #7-10 and take Monk. I wouldn't trade any future picks though. If they selected Ball at 3, I'd be a little less inclined to move back into the top10. I'd just concentrate on signing a stretch 4.

You must not be very high on saric at all because just yesterday you were calling Malik Monk Chasson Randle. That's a hefty package to get him.

Take it with a grain of salt, this person is not connected to BC, just interesting conversation fodder. I would beyond depressed if we passed on Jackson or Ball for Tatum, or walked away from this draft with Monk as the marquee.

You say he works for the Sixers but not connected to BC? Is he a scout for the Sixers? Does he do anything draft related where he gives input on who he likes? Who does he want?

Just a young guy who works for the team giving me the chatter. Not in a prominent position. Not a big deal, just found it interesting that that's what he is hearing.

One of the more disgusting workouts that I have ever seen. He needed a pick to create space for spot up threes while being defended by an agent.

you can't be serious

how about all those spot up 3's he was splashing, with the agent jumping up in his face while he was releasing? ice water, right? never seen nothing so thunderous as Embiid's workout right before the 2014 draft, but Smith's athleticism is stunning.

Embiid should sue DSJ for copyright infringement. Only Embiid is allowed to look good in practice against 5'10 white trainers.

That's not a hefty package, IMO. I'd just as soon cut Okafor and Justin Anderson, to make room for 2nd round picks, so it's really just Saric for Monk. Saric is a bench player without a needed skill for his position or an important role on the team. Malik Monk is a bench player with a plus-plus skill that could fill an important role on THIS team. On this team Monk can start and play an important role. What Saric brings isn't needed.

Players are being trained to be the same player. They are differentiated by how much of that player they can emulate and how efficiently they can do it. DSJ is just another pick & roll lead guard just like Mudiay, just like bigger guards like Gordon Hayward, or a bunch of failed players. They drill being this same player, so it's really about how frequently will the organization feature him in the pick & roll. ISO is weak amongst this group of players.

Cash Received:

Denver Nuggets: $0 remaining ($3,500,000 received)
Philadelphia 76ers: $100,000 remaining ($3,400,000 received)
Indiana Pacers: $272,714 remaining ($3,227,286 received)
The two teams impacted most by the money they’ve already spent or received in trades are probably the Cavaliers and Sixers. Cleveland has traded both of its 2017 picks, and will have a hard time getting back into the draft without any cash to use.

As for the Sixers, they have more picks than any other team in this draft, including four second-rounders. Philadelphia probably doesn’t want to use all of those picks, but trading them could be tricky, since the team isn’t eligible to receive more than $100K. If Philadelphia does trade a second-rounder or two, the return could be future picks rather than cash.

Good! I don't like the idea of selling multiple picks, instead of growing a foreign farm squad. Hope we take that 7'3 kid, Pasecniks or whatever.

When you have supremely talented players in a similar 'tier', then character will come into play. Smith looks like he could be special, but teams that want to win championships value the character piece. Every assessment of smith touches on the character, body language in a negative way. GMs will be somewhat leery of drafting the next AI or the next Cousins because they are toxic to a team. If they both had the same reputation as it relates to character, I don't think anyone would take monk over smith.

Well, here come BC mortgaging the farm. I do think Fultz, Simmons, Embiid sets us up amazingly though.

(Freudian slip, I originally typed BK. FML)

I'm fine with a future Sixers first, just not the LA pick.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
