One other thing to note - we still have an immigration problem. We need to increase the number of working age people to balance out our demographic problem. This current administration is going to leave a big problem for the following administrations (add the deficit to that and you really don't want to be the POTUS that follows Trump.

The blue line in the figure below is the 25 - 54 year old group. The redline is the overall population. As the delta between the two lines increase, you end up with a worker shortage for things like healthcare, public services, etc.

older poor people are going to need to remain in the work force longer. there is no way around it. easier jobs for sure. but they will need to remain working if they can not afford to "retire."

fact is jobs, GDP, growth, wages etc were all on the rise in the 40's - early 70's. we produced here in the USA. Good! kept jobs here! goood!!! consumed our own goods. Good!!!

However it was inclusive to all races and genders. not everyone felt the full effect of it. bad!!!

there were less murders per capita. good! less drugs! good. safer schools!! good!!

but again, it was not inclusive and not everyone felt the effects. bad!!!!!

One point to the above - the social programs are working. Our definition and bar for poor is rising - yes, there is a long way to go but...

Census figures (below the poverty line):
4/5 poor households have air conditioning (you don't need air conditioning in some parts of the country)
2/3 have cable or satellite television
1/2 have a personal computer
2/5 have a wide-screen HDTV
3/4 own a car or truck
1/3 have two or more vehicles
96% state that their children were never hungry at any time during the year
The average consumption of protein, vitamins, and minerals is virtually the same for poor and middle-class children
Square footage of living space and living spaces continue to improve

This is a huge improvement from where we started. But CLEARLY, this is one of the programs that has worked. Did it work how we expected, no. We expected that education would be equal and individuals would rise do to that education.

But that has nothing to do with the our social programs and everything to do with the politics of education.

your post speaks to the standard of living. yes it is better. and we have 21 trillion in debt that paid for it. maybe it was worth it.

the real goal though is to improve the standard of living and pay for it along the way...right? we do that by taxing "the people" appropriately.

now lets consider that in 2018, 92% of the wealth is held by .1% of the elite wealthy ruling class. In 1990 they only held 80% of the wealth.

Maybe somebody is NOT being taxed appropriately??? The federal reserve act of 1913 first implemented permenent income taxes as collateral for the nations debt.

The problem with America nowadays is there is no personal accountability. I'm not sure there are a whole lot of people like STD, but regardless, even if you don't put someone on ignore, you can always read without responding. Like visiting an alt-right site without leaving a comment (love your alt-swastika logo!) for purely informational purposes. You've seen them on TV (Supernatural, Law & Order, etc.), sitting at their computers, in their underwear, reading your angry posts, ROFLOL, eating pizza, telling their mothers never to come down to the basement. Is that the kind of debate you want to engage in? Don't drive yourself crazy, because this probably isn't actually a forum that is going to swerve anyone's opinions.

We have jokes running the Department of Education and the Department of Energy. The people he's hired to run the various US Departments - when he has appointed people instead of left positions vacant - is eroding decades of progress. I don't think people understand the depth of the problems caused by the Trump administration in just its first 2 years. I know I've buried my head in the sand too, because if I paid attention to how far we've regressed, I'd go nuts. And this generation of kids sees the lack of character of the people leading the country, and they see you have to do be a completely dishonest bully to get ahead. The future's is f'n dim unless we do a 180, and I'm not sure we have the character to do it.

And we're taught that if you say something, you're labelled a hysterical libtard. Our President personally attacks anyone that's publicly not in line with him and threatens them or belittles them. We're somehow not loyal Americans if we speak up. The country's getting more f'd up by the day. Even Mitch McConnell has to warn his party to not nominate the dregs of society for spots in the House.
