i also like the idea of an MKG. friendly contract, great defender and a will to be an even better one. i think if you go that route some interesting things start happening though, namely possibly making blake your starting C night in and out. that's something i don't hate at all either, as blake's post defense has become tremendously improved and not a lot of starting C's are gonna have the skills to attack him anyway.

MKG is the best player on the Hornets (might sound crazy, but hes been the most important piece for two years now).
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

This just confirms what Thorpe said on the TrueHoop TV segment, but I haven't seen who would be involved.
Update: Wilcox and Dawson have both been recalled from Bakersfield.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
How about Wizards forward Humphries with Guard Alan Anderson for Jamaal and Dawson and CJ Wilcox.
Humphries making 1 3PT made per game which is the reason they keep him on starting unit till Dudley's return. But now, I don't think they want him that much simply beacuse he isn't fix with their small-ball rotation even with his improved long range shooting. Alan Anderson on the other hand can make plays with small ball but he is old, injured and Otto Porter happened.
Wizards have looked like in needing some creativaty offens for their bench unit.
For our side, Humps can play at 5 with Josh at 4 in 2. unit, roll with his high percent rebounding rate and little shooting would always help our bench. Alan can bring some finesse, grind, and shooting which we need desperatly.
Maybe we need to add a second rounder pick for making it.
Sorry for my English.

Hey guys Wiz fan here... Would you do this trade: Wizards trade Beal, Gortat, Blair, and Gooden to LAC for Deandre Jordan and JJ ReddicK?

Bradley Beal is a superstar (no All Star appearance, but he was ejected from a game). Gortat is a polished center. Blair was a former Spur. Gooden was on the Clippers radar a couple years ago.
Jordan is a role star at best who can give you highlight reel plays to ignite the team's energy, a couple of which have actually translated into wins. Redick is a system-based three-point shooter who is solid at defending shooting guards. In fact, he may possibly be the only shooting guard in the league who can defend James Harden effectively.
Why would you want Jordan and Redick?

I'd take that in a heart beat

Well I think Beal is a solid player but I'm not confident giving him the max this offseason which is what he will require. Doesn't get to the line enough for him to be truly an elite player imo. I think it would be too much money to tie up into our backcourt while our frontcourt is looking really really weak at the moment.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
hmm
very rough math and estimates here, probably lots of errors but i'll try:
at point of trade:
outgoing salaries = 28.5M
incoming = 22.2M
EOS salary for clippers:
87.5M
after renouncing rights of gooden/blair
= 82.2M
assuming all our option deals decline and move on, 15.2M worth if you include lance
= 67M
let's say cap is 89M which most expect it to be. we'd have about 22M~ of cap space.
spend as necessary (you think batum would bite on a non-max deal starting at 22M a year?) to fill appropriate slots and then max out beal after all is said and done.
next season instead of praying blake and dj get better and watching cp3/redick age, we get 3 youngish guys who can ostensibly continue improving as cp3 (and gortat) age and/or move on and our core seems very safe.
btw assuming my math and process is right (and i wouldn't) but if you find a way to get rid of paul pierce and cj wilcox all of a sudden we have enough to offer a full on 30% max contract outright to a player. suddenly that nic batum could be another potential SF of your choosing. i wonder who out there fits that bill!

Pierce will be gone by retirement. Doc has never won a championship nor made the conference finals without Pierce. With Pierce, he is 59-47 with one conference finals appearance, an NBA Finals appearance and an NBA championship. Without Pierce, he is 18-24, never gotten past the second round, and had two 3-1 collapses. This is a lucky charm thing - Doc would rather keep Pierce than lose him again.
Wilcox, I'm going to say, is gone by trade.
Only one other fits the bill: superstar Kevin Durant. Paul George is also possible (though I think he becomes a sign-and-trade candidate, but with the $89 million of cap space, why bother), and there's a rumor that Dwight Howard might be on the block this season. The Rockets have already started offering Ty Lawson.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
Bojan Bogdanovic? Apparently the nets are making him available. He is having a down year compared to last year but I had him on fantasy and he played really well down the stretch. He is making 3.4 and then 3.5 million next year. On his rookie contract.
Obviously the nets are looking for picks or some way to alleviate their cap woes. Think they'll take Crawford and his expiring for Bogdanovic and a few of their other players who have a player option for next year? (Wayne Ellington, Bargnani).
The bench needs some shooting and he shot 35% on 3's last year. 40% in March in 16 games and 48% in April in 9 games. Also he's a 6'8 SG, I don't know his defensive reputation but having that length at the 2 can't be worse than having Jamal.
Just a thought.

I'm not entirely sure how it works for restricted free agents, or if once you extend the qualifying offer that's what counts against the cap, but if not, Beal has a cap hold of $14,734,954 which would have to be added to our cap. Plus, even renouncing Pierce+Wilcox+Dawson, we'd have to add a half a million cap hold for every roster spot until 13 men, so that adds $4M more. Hard to see us being able to add anyone meaningful with what would be left, I think we'd rather trade Lance's expiring deal on draft day with a pick attached to it for someone around his salary.

man i am clueless. i thought his cap hold was supposed to be for the 7.5m~ whatever he's making this year. didn't know about the pierce/wilcox/dawson restriction thing either.

Certainly an interesting offer, but without Otto Porter its a non-starter for me
I like Beal, but he's constantly injured. On the plus side, he has expanded his game on the ball and is only 22.
Again, an interesting deal, but the Clippers' need a swingman desperately. SG is a position that can be filled much easier, especially considering Paul and Griffin's usage and ball domination. Beal doesnt seems like a natural fit and won't have the ball in his hands enough IMO.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

The cap hold for a rookie scale contract after year 4 is 250% of his previous year's salary. Beal is being paid $5.69 mil this season x 2.5 = $14.2 mil.
Also, you have to include the minimum salary $543k (estimated) for each spot under the minimum of 13, as a cap hold.
In all reality, we arent looking at much cap space available (~$5-7 mil) even if we decline the option on Lance, renounce Crawford's rights, waive Gooden and Blair (not sure on non-guaranteed amounts without doing research) and Austin, Aldridge and Johnson opt out.
Swap Beal with Porter+Anderson+2nd and now we're talking.

Fire up your trade offers, everybody.
As I can see it, only five of the fifteen Clipper players are safe.
This means they called the Cavs but I can't imagine the Cavs moving any of their main pieces.

Sam Amico is an NBA Insider for Cleveland, Ohio. That means, he has connections to the Cavaliers. Hence, JBK's suspicions of the Clippers making a trade with the Cavs.
