I always find little nuggets like this fascinating - check out this link for the FIBA WC Rosters on the FIBA WC website. Its is hidden and hard to get to, but here is a page for RJ Barrett and you can see the other guys from the drop down menu (other players).
http://www.fiba.basketball/basketballworldcup/2019/player/RJ-BarrettSo why are certain guys listed and others not? There is always tidbits of info out there that teams are supposed to get a official player pool lists into FIBA well ahead of time and they can only cut the final 12 roster down based on these guys. I have no word of this is true for this World Cup, but have heard something like this in other tournaments.
This drop down list includes:
Kyle Alexander
Best
Barrett
Brooks
Birch
Boucher
Brissett
Dort
Ejim
SGA
Heslip
CoJo
Aj Lawson
Murray
Nembhard
Olynyk
Pangos
Addison Patterson
Powell
Pangos
P Scrubb
T Scubb
Wigginton
Wiltjer
24 guys (round number that seems a logical number preliminary cut off list)). Missing here is Thompson (no surprise), Stauskas, Lyles, Clarke, Kabengele, Doornekamp, Shayok, Long, Rautins.
It probably means nothing - but it is interesting enough to point out as a possible Easter Egg. Missing Lyles and Stauskas isnt ideal (but unsuprising considering Nik's FA status and Lyles lack of recent history/Rich Paul) - but they are deeper bench guys and not a huge loss if we have all the rest of the guys listed above.
A team of
CoJo, SGA, Pangos
Murray, Brooks, Barrett
Olynyk, Birch, Powell, Boucher, Ejim
And one of P Scrubb, T Scubb, Wiltjer or Heslip would be pretty darn exciting.
Again - maybe nothing, but fun gossip material.
Edit: I did try to check other countries. Australia had 18 listed (including Simmons) the USA had 12 listed (including Davis, Beal and CJ). Perhaps these are just already built profile pages just to get ahead of things and are meaningless. But....
Edit 2: Tobias Harris withdraws - Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown added to list. This is getting comical.
