Cavs are going to try and recoup as many picks as possible and try not to take on any bad contracts while doing it. I don't see us in running here. We have some assets to trade but the looming teams around the NBA have a treasure trove full of draft assets to throw around.
I don’t think that picks will necessarily be the biggest factor for Clev.
Unless they are also gonna dump Garland Evens and or Allen.
Otherwise, seems reasonable for them to instead value talented players who are can solidify their roster around their core and hope that their young guys keep developing.
Cleveland really has to take a long look in the mirror at who they are and who they want to be, they took their swing, but it looks like it's now time to regroup and push forward.
1. With the move Boston made this last summer, this current Cleveland team has very little chance to get past Boston for the next few years future unless Mobly takes a leap.
2. Decide who to keep at center; Allen or Mobily, now toss in the fact that Mobley will be looking for a max extension this summer with 1 year left on his rookie deal. Cleveland shouldn't/can't pay 20+ mil for 2 centers.
3. Decide on one of the 2 smallish starting guards in Mitchell or Garland, both need the ball, and both need a bigger guard next to them who is at least solid defensively.
If I'm Cleveland, I try to keep Mitchell, but if he's not going to extend get assets, maybe use those assets and Allan to add another core player to build around him Garland and Mobley.
If LeBron wanted a Hollywood ending, Cleveland could trade Mitchell and Allen (adding 1 or 2 good vets and assets), LeBron signs for the MLE, they get his son with a pick in this year's draft and take a shot at getting back to the NBA Finals through the East.
