The 2016 Offseason Thread
I think the Suns have to trade Archie. I can see him being the only negative one on the team because there's no minutes for him. What do you guys think? I rather play Ulis and Barbosa.

I think the only hesitation McDonough feels is - if he can't get anything for trading Archie, there's no reason not to keep him and hope he shows something this season (even if it happens in a worst-case scenario). We'll still have his RFA rights. And you never know - maybe there's a team out there willing to give us a future second in a sign-and-trade if he does show some consistency in limited minutes this season.
If TJ takes PJ's time, I could see PJ being traded. This becomes doubly true if one of Bender or Chriss shows he merits time right off the bat. PJ stays if TJ has an injury or otherwise proves necessary to the team. Even if TJ does take PJ's minutes, I could see us keeping PJ around in order to provide depth (assuming we're not made a truly substantial offer for him). He's a good guy and shouldn't prove disruptive in any case.
If don't see Tyson being traded unless both (1) we're playing poorly, but (2) Tyson's playing great. If we're playing well, I see only a slight chance he'd be dealt, contingent on Len proving to be a consistently superior option.
So my likelihood chart goes:
PJ: 25%
Archie: 15%
Tyson: 10%
Overall: 45% chance of in-season trade.
To sum, I think this will be a very stable year from a roster perspective.

Re: The 2016 Offseason Thread
As cosmo mentioned, I don't think there's much of a market for Archie and the risks (bad locker room presence, off-court issues etc) of keeping him around is very low so it's more than likely we'll just keep him on until we can include him in some bigger deal we may make this season.
I do see PJ being shopped but I also like the idea of keeping him around. The guy has always been a positive locker room presence, he pushes guys in practice, he can defend multiple positions if need be and he doesn't take shots away from our scorers. To me, hes the perfect guy to keep around a young team. At the same time, he could definitely help a contender or playoff team so shopping him does have its merits but it wouldn't be something I'd push for. I don't think PJ is going to take more of TJ's minutes than need be but there really isn't any other veteran 3 if PJ gets moved. We have a vet in every position and if we moved PJ, it would leave a hole at the wing position.

Re: The 2016 Offseason Thread
No sane team is going to pick up Archie because of his dismal shooting percentages. If he has made progress on his 3 point shot then it will show during this training camp and preseason games. If I were a betting man I think Jenkins gets the nod over Archie and the Suns just stretch/waive him.

I like Bender contesting pretty much every shot near him. Maybe he will do well at the 3.

Re: The 2016 Offseason Thread
http://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/nba/suns/2016/09/29/tyson-chandler-embraces-phoenix-suns-youth-direction/91281406/
“I thought it was good for the future to be quite honest,” Chandler said. “I thought that was where we lacked last year – at power forward. We’ve already got young guards with all the shooting in the world so we needed to build on that side of the ball.
“That’s what I came here for. That’s my job, to help hand the leadership off. It’s even that much more important for me to teach them how things are supposed to be done. I want to be part of this franchise getting back to the glory days. I feel like I’m definitely going to tap into it. I feel like we’ll be better than people expect. Just the competition. If we play like we’ve been playing out here, that’s good enough for me.”
“Now coming in, everything is so structured,” Chandler said. “Guys knows what is expected of them. Earl is doing an excellent job of teaching guys on the perimeter and the wings defensively and that’s ultimately going to help my job. And on the other side, he’s a stickler about getting guys the ball in the right spot and where they’re comfortable. It makes my life real easy and that’s what happened in February and that’s what is going to continue to translate.”
Despite the Suns coming off a 23-59 season, Chandler said the playoffs are a realistic goal for this season if the team can have better health and be willing to make sacrifices.
“We’re going to compete,” Chandler said. “We’re going to go about this thing as a family. We’re going to stay together. We hit some rough patches last year when the foundation kind of broke. I think this team realistically is a playoff team. Some things have to happen in order for you to accomplish that goal and it’s tough with youth but it’s definitely something we can accomplish.”

Re: The 2016 Offseason Thread
Hello everybody after so many weeks of no posting here. I hope summer rest brought good moments and experiences for everyone in this post. So did to me...
Well, I cannot imagine we are not starting Booker next season. He was our best player last year, he is going to be our best player for the next 10-14 and I just can envisioned one reason for that to happen: coach Watsons wants to teach him a lesson on how tough he has to work to be a star, that he even is not a starter on his team.
On the other hand, I believe that would be a negative message to Knight, ashe will think that he can his spot assured, no matter what.
I will not be against multiple changes in the starting lineup during the RS, so any of the three can get the reward of being the starter. But Knight playing heavy minutes bith as a PG and as a SG in offense will a luxury for us. Not many teams can enjoy such a good bench scores PG.
I am with Chandler, I believe we can make the Po and I believe we will be better than most people thinks. The additions of Dudley and the rookies are important, but the leadership of Chandler, Bledsoe and Dudley, together with Tucker, will be crucial.
I think we have addressed almost any weakness we had one way or another. Not with top level players, but with rookies, by getting back injured players...

Re: The 2016 Offseason Thread
Watching the Archie Goodwin draft express video, it's amazing and sad to see that his shot really has not improved at all. It still is flat.
I totally agree that in today's NBA, you absolutely must be able to shoot and shoot consistently, otherwise you will never be able to cut it.
So at this point, we have to ask: Why has Archie's shot not improved? Is it a lack of attention on behalf of our coaching staff? Or is Archie too stubborn to make the effort to change it?
The scary thing is that with an improved shot, Archie becomes dangerous. I mean honestly, it could be another Hassan Whiteside situation where a player can't cut it, goes to the D-league, matures a bit and improves drastically, and then comes back and becomes a near allstar talent.
I still have hope.

No longer seeing a thread to post rumors in so I'm posting in this one.
Anyone discuss this one yet?
Not familiar with the source but still something interesting:

If Archie had fixed his shot by year 2, he'd be a legit 15+ppg scorer off the bench. His ability to draw fouls is at an elite level but defenders gives his shot no respect so they just sag off him when he's out at the perimeter. As for why it hasn't improved...some players just have broken shots. It's kind of like guards who can't seem to shoot over 70-75% from the FT line. It's kind of a guard's job to be able to shoot FT's (although bigs should as well) and you'd expect them to put in hours in training working on it but some guards just can't seem to get it done in game. Archie's shot might just be broken. I'm positive he's put in work by himself, with trainers and even with Hornacek.
