look, if this doesn't work out it'll just be like 90 percent of the time i've watched the knicks in my life. as you get older you just learn to accept some things are gonna suck. it is what it is.

Which is why I got BLopez.
Wolves were 13th defensively the year before they got Gobert, we'll be top 10 with him and the wings helping out.
The Nuggets won the the title as 5th offense and 15th defense.
Yep, I’ll gladly take being a competent and switchable defensive team over being a team that had stretches of not being able to put the ball in hoop because of poor spacing.

I wrote this before the kat trade
but I wasn't joking either when I said giving randle any extension would guarantee 0 championships and 0 ecfs.

It could work out. Thibs created some great defenses with Boozer as the weak link. But acting like it's not the main concern now is wild.
Bench buckets is also a concern
Not if we stagger well imo. Like, a unit with Deuce and OG could be awesome.

KAT isn't Bargs but he's also not KP, who is an excellent defender. Thibs has his work cut out.

It's ridiculous. I am not even a fan of this trade but, the people with pitchforks out are ignoring things or exaggerating things to make their case.
I will wait and see what they look like together. This isn't Minnesota. Totally different roster. Different coach. Playing on his childhood/lifelong favorite team. As long as Brunson/Mikal(extension due)/Hart(big mouth) are ok with this, because Donte is ok with it, them I'm ok with it. I don't want to hear any negativity from the locker room over this. That's gonna make this a bad trade until proven otherwise from my perspective. If it fails miserably I will take it badly.

Over the years it was a natural instinct after a while to overreact to everything. After the last two seasons this FO has gained my trust. I will reserve judgement until every detail about this trade is revealed.

We'll be good so I don't see a gloom and doom scenario. But great? Things to work out.

cause the guy we depend on to be the "strongest" interior player is a DNP for playoff games and averages a career 45% TS in the playoffs.
and his style of play is garbage for the playoffs when there are less whistles to get free points at the line.
We depend on Randle? Last I checked we did good the last two post seasons without him and he only took up under 20% of the salary cap. Sounds like a piece to the team, not the guy.

Randle has an extension coming. He doesn't make less than half but, there is a huge gap. Randle obviously wants to close that gap. Otherwise he would have signed an extension at around 40mil or so to stay here long term.
Donte was replaced with Bridges.
The FRP may never convey but, I'm not so sure about that. We shouldn't have added it honestly. That's a small issue that irks me some. Having that pick convey in a couple years would be golden. I would have preferred sending the WAS pick.
Letting Randle walk after trying this year > taking on the KAT contract.
Then what? Cause we'd still be capped out with no way to improve the team for the remaining 3-4 years of Brunson's prime.
Maybe we should've thought about that before we made a big trade for a role player that's making max money to play 40 games a year and get hurt in the playoffs?

Neither of them is great creating offense

Julius randle is not a star. if he was one, we would've beaten Miami or indiana.
Julius Randle isn't being paid like a star either.

yep
you're right
anything that the team has accomplished the last 2 years
beating Philly in 23, beating cle in 22
was actually done without randle.
so this idea that we're somehow worse by making brunson better is just projection of ur insecurity onto us.

listen, i'm cool if they trade mitch if they bring a defensive minded center back. he does have a tendency to be injured. i get it. but in general i woke up today feeling like they should have just waited until the deadline and seen what this team was about as is. i doubt anyone else in the league was rushing to trade for towns. you could have done it then if you felt like you weren't gonna be able to re-sign randle at the number you wanted.
Under this scenario, we would have discovered that playing Julius and Sims at the 5 was a failure (something we already knew). Then, we would have been scrambling to find a solution mid-season and then trying to incorporate that player (or players) into an existing team with only 2 months left before the playoffs.
If memory serves me, the east's top-seeded teams and the 8th-seeded team from last season were separated by about 4 games. So, using this season as an experiment just to "see what we got" would have been a colossal waste of time (and a waste of Brunson's prime).

So a souped up version of Bargs is better than Randle?
You mean when Randle destroyed him in January?
You must think Randle is better than Sabonis too?

I just found a super ugly picture of Payne to respond with but it was one of those reddit ones where the link doesn't post so you'll just have to believe me that it was funny.

and thibs talked about how last year it was hard to get bojan running in the middle of the season. which was eventually fixed, but how in season trades can disrupt chemistry.
which is ironic because im fairly certain that if we had bojan we probably would've had enough players to defeat indiana in 7.
