Nets coach Kenny Atkinson on Porzingis: “If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear it,’’ Atkinson cracked when asked how to defend the 7-foot-3 Latvian. “The great thing is he plays defense too and protects the rim. You’re figuring out his offensive game, but you’re also figuring out how to get him out of the way. He can score the ball. It’s a unique, unique player, great for the NBA, but not great for the Nets.’’

Its time for KP's defense to get some praise.

I think KP could be much more efficient if we actually had some good plays for him. I think partially we don't have the right players yet but almost all his shots are touch shots. He needs more shots coming off screens and a mix of pick and roll / pick and pop. I think he will start seeing more of those as Frank starts to come along and is effective in the PnR.

cowherd's a hack though.

Maybe it's on the players or maybe it's on the coaching stuff but problem is in execution than plays itself. Triangle in NY suffered from same, not because of it's outdated.

We need to set better screens, more man movement in rhythm. It would be hard to double team KP if others move with a purpose.

This is the thing we have to remember when there is some frustration or lack of satisfaction with his offensive game. I mean, for whatever steps still need to happen in his offensive game, it's clear the other team has to gameplan for him and adjust their defense for him, and that alone helps make his teammates better. But it's also true for his defense. Great to hear a good coach mention it.

I think the length and intensity of the NBA season could be a reason for his injury troubles and also the extra physical defense against him. He didn't have such problems in Europe.

Amen on Porzingis' defense. He's an excellent rim protector who masks a lot of the team's defensive deficiencies in terms of personnel especially the starters (Kanter, Jack)

Porzingis is the centerpiece of Hornacek's scheme - he has the perimeter players funnel the opposition toward porzingis in the paint if possible. His help defense is excellent with his length and activity.

If Porzingis can ever become robust enough to play center for the majority of his minutes i think he will be able to anchor a defensive juggernaut as he wont have to venture out to the perimeter as much.

KP can’t play center unless the other team go full blown small ball. He doesn’t have the physical advantage over most centers, which is fine. Every player has his deficiencies. KP doesn’t usually go for defensive rebounds. I think it’s a self-protection thing as well. He went for it with Justise Winslow and got hurt. KP needs a banger down low to play alongside him so that he can abuse the smaller player who tries to guard him. Although it may be not ideal sometime defensively, it’s something we need to live with.

And for some dumb basketball writers who always want him play center to make space, who the **** are we making space for? KP is not a stretch big for some other no. 1 option. He is our franchise guy. He should be established in the post and everything should be run through him from there. It should be everyone else making space for him instead. Kudos to the new regime for not being stupid by letting him be a power forward.

One Thing that really makes me so tremendously happy to have KP as the face of this organization is that he is just PURE CLASS. The guy never washes dirty laundry in the media, is heaving praise on Melo, never takes the bait by the media and is just 100% respectable good human looking from the outside...
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

KP can't turn over his left shoulder. This weakness has been exposed hard today by Brad Stevens.

From this video you can see he's terrible doing that.

Something to work on next summer. Maybe he's working on it now too, it's just not working in games yet. He's still a work in progress.

Yup. It’s hard though. Aldridge has been in the league 11 years and he couldn’t turn the left shoulder well. KP really needs to work hard on a balanced attack from both sides. Maybe getting his ass handed to him in the playoffs can help him develop better.
