Why trading down to make a couple moves to land 2 picks instead of 1 makes alot of sense. Target higher risk, higher gem prospects and hope we strike gold with one of our picks.
Bulls fans haven't been on the same page with who to draft since Derrick Rose and even then some wanted Beasley over him.
Truth. Even so, it's still a particularly tough year to reach a draft consensus. We have much less data on the players than usual and we also don't have a read on the direction of the new FO. We don't even have a coach right now. All that makes evaluation really tough.
We can't even really agree on what the Bulls biggest need is other than talent. And then there's disagreement about what "talent" means and which players have it. We're in a situation where we can improve at virtually every position so it's largely a matter of philosophy. Some of us think the team needs playmaking the most, some people say shooting. Personally I say scoring and rebounding are the biggest needs. I mean c'mon guys we were 29th in rebounding and 27th in scoring - in what universe is playmaking our biggest gap right now? I punch in talent, scoring and rebounding as the criteria and Okongwu is the clearest choice. HIs world-altering defense is honestly just a bonus.
I get the folks who don't want a big because yes, the league is driven by guards and wings. But our guard rotation is actually not terrible and our wing situation can be addressed through consolidation trade. Going with a PF makes our path to the playoffs more secure and Okongwu in particular gives us a foundational piece for future success.
