This is like Gallo (Frank)or Melo (Irving) tallent argument now. The truth is Irving is a champion and Gallo was just..ok.

If it were Steph Curry and not Kyrie would we feel the same or would it be a no brainer?
Steph ain't exactly Gary Payton on D himself.
And he's older. But what would be the concensus if it were Steph requesting a trade with us atop his list?
Steph is a better player than Kyrie.
And doesn't score in isolation like kyrie.
And whose gravity would make everyone on the team exponentially better.

I've been preaching to stop trading 1st round picks for many years but in this case for a still very young (25) Kyrie, I think it's worth giving up 1 and only 1 future 1st round pick and it has to be a future 1st not our 2018 1st cause I think after a year of KP and Kyrie playing together we'll be easily a playoff team and pick in the late teens to somewhere in the 20's and getting a player like Kyrie is well worth anything we'd be getting at that point in a draft.
Now with the players i'd add to Melo would also have stipulations which would be anyone but KP, Willy, Frank and i'd try me best to not add D.Dotson to the deal cause I think this kid has a chance of being a good player especially shooting of course. So take any of Melo, C.Lee, THJ (wouldn't that be hilarious), KOQ, LT and whoever else with a future 1st rounder.
Nope, still not trading a future first unless it's heavily protected.
I can't say I don't understand your reasoning for it but I can't see one future mid 1st round pick hurting us when we already have some good young talent on the team in KP, Willy, THJ, Frank, Dotson and then Kyrie along with our 2018 high 1st rounder.
Trading picks hurts. Period. The amount of value they provide aside from us having their rights is large - they are incredibly cheap and, if you strike on it, the player will outperform his rookie contract at least a few times over. When we are capped out, you will be wishing you hadn't traded that pick because there will be little, if any, room to add FAs. I also believe that Kyrie could hurt our tank and move us down from top 5 to the ~10th pick, so the player we get won't be as high impact and there's no guarantee we'd make the playoffs the following year.
I absolutely can see one future mid first round pick hurting us. Agree to disagree.

Re: Melo Trade Thread - Sorry Melo, these are the breaks
Those types of tweets are just nonsense and noise.
If and when Morey gets it through his head we're not trading Carmelo for his undesirables, and that we actually want some value in return, a deal can get done.
Until then, it doesnt matter what the twittersphere thinks or sources think. Carmelo is under contract for this season and possibly next. The Knicks decide whether Carmelo stays or Carmelo goes.
Houston can put up or shut up.
End of story...

How exactly does one turn into a contender when they pass on all legit pros and instead hope they draft well?
In the last 30 years we have drafted one all star...Patrick. One.

Well since there's zero way for either of us to know the future on where we'd be picking in any draft and if that player will be a good or bad player or if Kyrie hurts our tank or becomes a great addition for us and him and KP end up being a great combo or a bad one it will of course be hard to say if one future pick is worth Kyrie even though the odds are more in favor of Kyrie being worth that one future pick IMO. All we can do is hope that whatever moves this new regime makes works out for the best for us and they hopefully complete a successful culture change. We're not as bad off as some seem to think we are as of now with having some good young talent with potential and having all of our draft picks so if we make smart moves from here on out, in 2/3 years we can be ready to take that next turn and complete our rebuild the right way and with Noah coming off the books we'll have some money to spend to hopefully make a good free agent addition. If Kyrie is a part of it then great and if he isn't we'll still be in a good position.

Bro..are you really arguing against acquiring one of the best players in the league?
Hoping some day you draft or create the perfect team?
Really?
He's one of the best scorers in the league who does nothing else.
Anyways, I'm not "against" bringing him in...I simply don't want to trade any young piece in doing so (or first round pick, unless heavily protected) and I think it will be difficult building around him.

The problem is not just the age. It's also that Kyrie is coming due for a very big payday in 2 years. That means we have to pay up big if we like him, before we're at that level where we've been able to attract free agents. So we will have no flexibility then and be stuck in mediocrity. That's not a Kyrie issue, it's a cap/CBA issue.

You're right because you're arguing salaries, CBA, and flexibility to build a team under the cap. This is separate from, "Is Kyrie the kind of guy we want on our team?"
Trading away a pick and adding his salary in 2 years to our payroll wouldn't let us move further ahead. We'd be stuck.

So JR Smith is a champion. So is Shump. We should trade everything to get them back, because they're champs.

Even if Kyrie comes to the knicks, I just don't see this team making the playoffs this up coming season. With that said... If we're trading 1st round picks for him, there HAS to be heavy lottery protection on them.

I do...you didn't see the mass exodus of talent out of the east?

Do you think he's doing this with some expectation that Lebron will be joining them in a year?

That's an interesting question because I think he's made it clear he sure as hell isn't staying in Cleveland. He's most likely not going to stay in the East, and if he wants to have a shot at beating the Warriors he needs to go to HOU, maybe Spurs.

I could see him going there along with DWade, on a vet minimum or some other artificially low salary. Houston would have a very interesting team -- watching them play GS in the West Finals would be like that movie with the old guys kicking butt... Red?

I would think a team with Kyrie, THJR, KP and Willy has a very good chance of making the playoffs in the east
