Kenneth Faried is still UFA last I checked.

He worked well with Harden which means he could work with Luka. He rebounds and plays defense. Which means he can work opposite KP. He's only 28 and could be had for less than the full MLE. Why has Donnie not called him yet?

Unless they have really high hopes for Dwight Powell starting, then I'd understand.

Because this. I mean there is still hope for something drastic to happen but window is closing really fast. They still have 14M or TPE but i guess nothing will be used. We'll see soon enough.

Welp, this is it folks.. Cap is gone, only 11M TPE left. Free agency is basically over for Mavs. I guess they will wait and see what happens with the RW trade.

Hope they still trade for Tristan Thompson.

Maybe THJ + Lee + two 2nd rounders for Thompson and Larry Nance Jr works?

You haven't watched him.

He plays 0 defense and is the size of a SF.

Hes an empty stats guy and will be signing a minimum deal somewhere as a 5th big.

I wouldn't go near him.

Hm don't know how i feel about TT honestly. I kinda like THJ off the bench. He brings much needed confidence and shooting when nothing else works. And with the 2nd unit, he could be very valuable.

If they can get rid of Lee in combination with TPE, that could be a good potential trade for the Mavs, but i'm not sure it would even work in NBA2k lol...just looks too good on paper.

THJ is the perfect guy off the bench, yes he gets paid too much, but people seem to write him off as a player completely because of that, it doesn’t change what he does on the court. I’d say he’s probably legitimately worth around the $8-10m/year mark, and the rest of his contract you could look at as dead money, but you’d have to upgrade the roster by at least that much if you’re putting hm in a trade.

In saying that, I am a little intrigued about TT’s fit in the mavs front court.

THJ is not really useless as you say. And iirc, isnt next year a player option? I mean, he is at that age that a longer contract might be intresting, so I think its 50/50 if he takes it or try his market at FA since next years FA isnt great. I might be wrong about the PO tho

Hmm, thinking, what would the teams need to add for this:
OKC send out Westbrook to Pistons, get THJ and Jackson
Pistons send Jackson to OKC and Drummond to Mavs
Mavs send THJ to OKC

OKC gets rid of westbrooks contract and probably some pick from pistons. Get back 2(?Thought it was 1+1) years of THJ and 1 year of jackson so faster clearing the books.
Pistons get Westbrook
Mavs get a rebounding C

Alternatively it works with Justin Jackson and Lee from mavs to OKC too, so they get out from the salaries even faster but personally I am not a fan of letting JJ go.

The Mavs is rumored to bring Bullock, 38% 3 point shooter, in. Recently, NYK withdraws the offer 2-year 21M to Bullock. If the main motivation behind Green's pursuit is 3-point shooting. Bullock actually makes perfect sense. The 28 year-old FA is pretty consistent from long range with an average of 39% from the arc, over 50% from the field. With TH, JJ and DFS all seems unlikely as stable starter. I am not opposed to this signing. At least, it makes more sense than trading for AI for another 2nd. Offensively, Reggie fits very well with Doncic as the shooter normally operate from corner up to 45 degree of the arc on both side while Doncic normally oprates at the top of the key. But I wonder what sort of defense could Bullock play, though.

Can you provide sources please? I have not seen this rumour in any of the usual places.

I'm starting to see the logic behind a Kelly Olynyk kind of player to backup and spot start for Porzingis. Powell/Marjanovic/Kleber need to man the C position while Olynyk/Kostas could backup Porzingis. That would pretty much put us at least in the playoffs.

Trade idea popped into my head, and I think it checks out... Hardaway and Lee for... Chris Paul. Who says no?

Depends on how many draft picks OKC will send with Paul.

Definite No for the Mavs.

-Team does not need any other offensive stars. KP is great offensive player. Dirk-lite on offense at young age. Listening to BS podcast, I heard Doncic is in like top 15 or sth in MVP betting this season.
-No high usage player needed. I'd not mind like getting Klay or Beal who can play off the ball when its needed. But cp3 is basically effective with ball in his hands. KP-Doncic already going to take a lot of shots so hard pass for CP3.
-Also timing. Dallas shouldn't go in win now mode. Clippers looks scary. Utah built a solid team. GSW won without Durant before they can do it again. Klay would return by postseason, Draymond's contract year. D'Russell is an asset to trade. I dont like Lakers but they'll be pushed into mix. Denver and Portland are great regular season teams. Houston only lost to GSW in last years. WB certainly adds value to that team.
1st round exit would be perfectly okay for this team. CP3 wouldn't change that.
Getting CP3 would kill all next FA opportunities. And his decline is inevitable.

Dallas already bet high on KP. For his caliber player this investment is certainly understandable. If he plays like 60 game next year with 30mpg then you can count on him. Doncic-KP duo needs to be seen on court. Lets observe what they can do. What are their weaknesses? Mavs has good chance to make playoffs this year. Even a first round exit would be good lesson for the players and FO.

Return to Dallas Mavericks
