Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
Part of me wants to take Ball or Wiseman knowing they are raw, tank for one more year and go after Cunningham, Williams or Green next years draft, all of which would go #1 if they were eligible for this years draft

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
Miles for a middle 1st even if this draft would be a better return than leting him go for nothing, or worst, signing a stupid extension. This draft might be meh, but it's mostly meh at the top, there are good potentials even in the second round.
Guys like Bey, Bane, Hampton, Terry should be middle first picks (at best late lottery).
And you get a rookie on a nice contract. Knowing if Miles is not worth a lot right now, considering next drafts loaded with wings with star potential, his value will be negative in no time.
The other point being that it would free some minutes for the Martin and some potential FA's at the wing. That would be a good thing especially for cody, to know what this team can expect from him and if he is a long term piece.
Even if it implies Rozier, Zeller or even Batum, any additionnal first would be pretty useful (by additionnal i mean not giving up any 1st, incl. future obviously).
Guys like Bey, Bane, Hampton, Terry should be middle first picks (at best late lottery).

No matter what, this rookie class is screwed out of a genuine rookie year. The draft and FA start the same week and some teams are still juggling their coaching situation as well. I can't see any rookie moving the needle this year.
This is when you draft a project. Bad draft class, low expectations, shortened season? This is the year to do it as a GM.

If these guys are second round in a bad draft, then they're not exactly typical 'second round value' imo. If you cant make your case as a 1st round talent in this draft then yikes...

I’m not shouting that I want to deal Miles, but I think that’s about correct value given he went 12th in his class, hasn’t done much to change that viewpoint, and the incoming player would be on a rookie deal for 2 more additional years. Miles is at worst a rotation guy on every NBA team as a top 7 guy who can Swiss Army knife his way onto the court at multiple positions/roles.
Just depends on if Hornets view him as a guy who is unmovable especially if they have a guy in that 10-15 range they love.

I think if we use Miles, it'll be to trade up or for another established player - not to move down and take more questionmark players in a bad draft

i'm the biggest miles hater i know and nah lol
if even half of those guys end up as good as miles is now - barely worth a starting spot on a bad team, it would be a huge surprise to me

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
So many smokescreens lately. I think a handful of teams are trying to position themselves to get Ball.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
Hey all...... I'm a Warriors fan, coming in peace.
The Warriors' front office has been throwing out a huge smokescreen..... everybody looks and assumes that Wiseman would be the guy they would take at 2, if he's available and they're keeping the pick. But nobody is really sure on that, or if there might be somebody else that they really want and are just "indulging the Wiseman chatter" to try to get other assets in a trade.....
The general feel we're hearing is that Charlotte wants to get Wiseman really badly..... but again, it's not clear if that's a smokescreen, or if it's real. So I'm curious:
- Do you think Wiseman is absolutely the guy that Charlotte wants to get? (If not, who do you think they actually are targeting?)
- What assets do you think Charlotte would consider trading to move up to #1 or #2 to more or less assure that they'd get Wiseman? (Note: obviously they probably wouldn't trade to #2, unless they were sure Minnesota wasn't taking someone else. So IMO, a trade to Golden State would probably not take place until the Warriors were on the clock, after Minnesota had already drafted.)
- What likelihood do you put on Charlotte pulling a trigger to trade up? Is it 10%.... 40%.... 75%?
Just curious to understand what the fan base actually thinks.....

We think Charlotte does like Wiseman but also are happy to pick BPA at #3 if a deal to move up can't be done. I doubt we'd be prepared to give up a future first or a significant asset like PJ, Devonte and to a lesser extent Bridges and Monk.
I doubt a deal will be done as I can't see GS or MIN accepting second round picks or Zeller etc to move down 1-2 spots.

It’s possible he could be one of several targets

Next to nothing. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to give up assets to move up only 1 or 2 positions in a draft that has no clear cut #1 overall prospect - or even a clear cut top #5.

Of course there is a chance we like Wiseman, but we've been one of the most tight-lipped teams in the league over the past 5-6 years. Nothing really linked us to Bridges in 2018 or Washington last year. Maybe we do love Wiseman but if we really leaked our cards a month out of the draft that doesn't add up at all with the way we have been run recently.

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
I love when teams in the top 5 act they are going to trade down and pass on “their guy” like they are doing you a favor. If you believe in a guy in the top 3 you just take him especially in the NBA when 1 player can change your entire teams landscape (similar to qb in nfl).

Yeah, this is kind of how I see it. I can’t picture Charlotte being willing to offer much to move up, and likewise that neither the Wolves or Warriors would take a minimal offer. My guess is that if the Wolves trade down, it’s to somebody who really wants Ball and gives up a lot to move way up. And if the Warriors trade down, it will happen in the time when they’re on the clock, when it’s clear who’s off the board then. But I’d be really surprised if it was with the Hornets.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
I don’t think Charlotte wants to give up on any young assets to move around in this draft. I get the feeling they want to see where guys like Monk and Miles are at after one more season. And there’s no way in hell they’re dealing PJ.

Agreed. “Maybe” a team in the 7-14 spots might try and make a bold move get into the top 3, but even then I think it’s doubtful because the top 3 prospects are pretty questionable (compared to some previous drafts) and it appears this draft has prospects all through the lottery that could hold value as a draft selection.

Yep. While there seems to be a generally (not entirely, but generally) agreed top tier of Ball/Wiseman/Edwards, the step down to that next tier is pretty small, and there’s something like 4-6 players in it...... so why would somebody give up that much in order to just move up to what only may be a marginally small jump in talent, with risk of busts throughout?
Gonna be interesting, but I suspect less trade activity than pundits are speculating.

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
I mentioned this in the Edwards thread, but seems like many are questioning certain prospects BBIQ or intelligence levels so I thought it would be good to get a ranking of everyone’s top 10 IQ guys among current lottery projected guys.
