You may be correct. Probably didn't want to sign him long term next season. What would be their cap situation next season? Could they be in the running for another max after signing IT?

THJ had leverage. KCP doesn't. Big difference.
Only reason KCP was going to get a mega deal was to stop Detroit from matching. That's not an issue anymore.

4/70 to 4/75 for KCP is a win for us and a solid deal. anything less is a steal

Exactly. It's a straightforward contract compared to the wrinkles it takes to pry him out under restricted free agency.
I hope Paul waits until we can negotiate a full salary within a week.

KCP is a good 2 way player. THJ isnt. he is worth more.
cant see KCP getting less then THJ. if he does, marks for GM of the year
