Mitch, all this waiting is your fault. Melo is waiting on you to sign with a team before he makes a decision. That's always how it goes. The top free agent decideds then the rest of the dominoes fall.

For Melo

If Taj gets traded to give him the max that's a PR nightmare

Big Baby???

Aw hell naw...

I know everyone likes Melo and want to get him to the Bulls anyway possible. But, some of these names when they try to dump Taj is just horrible. That guy was being kicked out of the rotation even by his favorite coach.

Just because somebody is tall with a wide body doesn't mean they can replace Taj. That's what it has become.

Here is a team where the Bulls give up Boozer, nonguaranteeds and 4 future 1sts for Melo
Rose / DJ (part of MLE)
Butler / Dunleavey
Melo / McDermott
Taj / Mirotic (part of MLE)
Noah
+ 4 vet min contracts / scrubs

See the difference?

The difference is I think you have your numbers wrong. There's a thread open that explains how we can give Melo $20m and still keep Taj, Butler and sign Mirotic. Yet somehow in your scenario we'd have to strip the entire team to give Melo the extra $2m in year one and end up with just McDermott on the bench. Granted I'm not a cap guru and my math might be off here, but please explain.

Boozer needs to act like a grown man about this. Its not like he should be surprised or anything. Coach doesn't like how you play defense. The writing has been on the wall for how long now?

Be happy you're getting paid, say your goodbyes, pay your respects, and move on. Stop posting garbage like you're a heartbroken teenager.

I think that's a losing pitch. Rose's injury status really hurts him as an attractive guy to play with on the court and he has done chicago no favors off the court.

Chicago's best pitch was a win now team. Rose / Melo / Noah + scrubs is not it.

OKC has a SF. They have a weak SG and C and haven't won because of it. Even then, they do have some depth though which is a step above what Chicago would have.

Again, this is not about Taj. Its what the whole roster looks like in the capspace scenario. Its not pretty.

.....

For the people who keep bringing up Gasol. That's part of a sign and trade. You can't land Gasol with the capspace scenario without someone taking a huge paycut.

Again, sign and trade = good. Capspace = bad.

And again, Fish, it's not the only pitch you make, it's the options you provide. Here's what I think the team looks like. To do this, you have to clear Taj, Dunleavy, Snell, Randolph, and the non-guaranteed guys. It's predicated on signing a back up point guard at the level of Hinrich to the remaining cap room (1,453 mil first year, maybe a two year deal) and then Glen Davis or a player of his ilk to a room exception contract.

Carmelo Anthony $22,458,401
Derrick Rose $18,862,870
Joakim Noah $12,700,000
Glen Davis $2,732,000
Jimmy Butler $2,008,748
Doug McDermott $1,898,300
Kirk Hinrich $1,453,000
Greg Smith $948,163
Minimum contract guys

The drag in this deal is that you can't bring Mirotic over in this scenario unless he's willing to come for the room exception, which is not ideal for him because he's worth more, and at a maximum of a two year deal, it's not enough years to get his full Bird rights.

I think the above team is way better than the Knicks or the Lakers. Again, it is an option that I believe you should provide to Melo.

As a team, its not a contender. That pretty much rules it out. If Melo wants to wait a year or two for a franchise to tool up, he is going to do it in NY for the 5/130 deal.

That being said, people are working on the assumption that this scenario wasn't even brought up to Melo. I find that rather difficult to believe. If 10's of thousands of internet warriors are aware of it, the Bulls and Melo's team discussed it.

I'll describe the Bulls management group a lot of negative ways. Cheap. Unfriendly. etc. Stupid is not one of them.

I disagree. I think that team might just contend in the East.

And after reading Ralph's posts yesterday, I got the impression that the Bulls did propose Melo the non-Taj option. We all agree the sign and trade is better if you can pull it off.

One question to ask, though, is do we like this team better than the team as it is constituted right now? It's basically down Taj and some depth and with Melo. I say you have to take this team over what you have now. Only the issue of what to be done with Mirotic confuses the issue for me.

As to whether Melo likes enough, in the case that a sign and trade can't be done, well, that's up to him.

I wish there was another thread ONLY for twitter updates/ rumors. And this one can remain discussion and speculation.

But there needs to be an easier way to find the latest update.
Derrick Rose will do 1 of 2 things in the 2014-2015 NBA Season: 1) Return to MVP form and prove you wrong, or 2) Fail to return to MVP form and prove me wrong. Either way, one of us will end up looking like an ***hole.

Fish, I'm a mind reader. I just read this:

@NBARumorPress: On the not-as-exciting, not-Melo front: Glen Davis' reps have been in contact with the Bulls.
