Idk if Cole Anthony is worth a pick swap (albeit with the Magic where it’s less likely to convert) but this post offers a Bucks trade scenario where he’s the odd man out:

Every NBA team needs a balanced roster. It doesn’t matter what their situation is. A contending team needs the right mix of players. Meanwhile, a rebuilding team needs space to let all of their young players shine.

The Orlando Magic do not currently have that balance. This is a young team on the rise. The Magic have a lot of talent. They just have too many point guards. Between Jalen Suggs, Anthony Black, Markelle Fultz and Cole Anthony, this team has a glut of young floor generals with similar skill sets.

By contrast, the Milwaukee Bucks are lacking in point guard play. Jrue Holiday is a star, but after him, the rotation gets bleak. Goran Dragic is too old to rely on. The Bucks could use an infusion of young talent at that position. Could they acquire Cole Anthony from the Magic?

The Trade Proposal

Orlando Magic Receive: G/F Grayson Allen, 2029 First-Round Pick (Swap – MIL)

Milwaukee Bucks Receive: G Cole Anthony, F Chuma Okeke

Granted, he’s got flaws. Anthony can get tunnel vision. This is a score-first point guard who can call his own number too frequently. That’s fine. The Bucks would deploy him as a sixth man. Anthony can carry the team’s second unit while the Bucks’ starters rest.

I thought Anthony took a pretty under-the-radar step last year when he moved to a lower usage role, improved his efficiency (57% TS), shot selection, AST/TO ratio (nearly 3:1), and in general was a more positive impact guy (+3.6 on/off). Look at the shooting splits too:

63% at the rim
44.7% 3-10 feet
52.2% 10-15 feet
42.5% on long-2's

I'd still prefer Suggs, but I'm talking myself into Anthony being a sneaky buy-low move that has a real good possibility of turning into a legit All-Star guy that extends the title window.

I'm not sold on any of our other wings (Beasley, Marjon, AJJ) being starter quality if Allen is traded. Anthony also has a pesky injury habit. There's a decent chance his addition does not immediately make the team better. That said, Ron, I 100% agree with you. The ceiling is high, he is a willing defender, and I can't think of a better mentor for a young talented guard than Jrue.

Questions about Cole Anthony:

1. How athletic is he / how good of a defender could he become? He's got good size at 6'3 fwiw.
2. Is he a true PG or more of a SG in a PG body?
3. 6th man microwave scorer type or someone who could beat out Beasley / MarJon for a starting spot?

Anthony's only played 47, 65 and 60 games in the 3 years of his career so far. However if he didn't have health considerations or other concerns he wouldn't potentially be available as cheaply.

The Bucks having Suki and a coach specializing in developing young players could portend well to his career trajectory if we were to go for it.

Cole's cheap contract also makes a deal centered on Allen and draft assets of some kind -- and what the pick/s would be matters a lot -- possible as well.

My Cole Anthony offseason alert went off with this thread.

He's a chucker beyond belief. I don't care what the stats say. Whenever I've watched the Magic, they've played much better with him off the court. Hard pass from me.

Forget the shorts/skirt debate. What on earth is that other guy wearing in the 2nd video? Striped Victorian trousers?

Gotta love the due diligence around here, we’ve really circled the wagon at this point. It must be blatantly obvious how bad we need another guard, Sexton, Simons, Quickley, Herro, Suggs, Anthony.. best forum on the internet if you ask me!

On the plus side, they probably don't have much more shelf life in that team.

That’s bad. Then everyone will be forced to watch a &@$€ Lakers team for one of the nationally televised games.

Looks like we can no longer embed tweets or whatever they're called now. The software here will have to be updated

ETA, I grabbed that link from the app. If you grab it from the website (which I never use) it still has Twitter.com and it works

This does worry me as someone intrested in Anthony despite not having really watched him. Personally I would much rather go after Coby White or Simons. But if Anthony could be gotten without a first its a no brainer imo. Despite his flaws he is young guard with untapped potential currently stuck behind a logjam. We need to take a risk and add some more potential to this team especially at guard.

I just don't see how Orlando sells low on Suggs so soon. Can't see them moving him over Fultz, Anthony or Harris. If they did would imagine it being part of package for all star.
