It depends how much minutes he plays in my optimistic scenario he gets 22 minutes and averages 10/8 on 56% in rookie season.

My boy JV doesn't play many minutes because it just wouldn't be fair to the other teams. It's like that little 11 year old kid in the states who is dominating his school's football league. He is only allowed to get three touchdowns a game and is benched afterwards for the remainder of the game.

Yeah there are alot of variables, if we play at the same (jose's) pace I would definitely temper expectations. 10/8 sounds reasonable. If we play a bit faster (Jerryd's pace) then I would bump him up to 14/10. Either way he should probably come off the bench as he will get abused by starting C's.

He's much better overall player than Ed Davis right now and Davis somehow scored 7.7 pts with 7 rebounds last year. We'll see.

Personally, I'd be happy with 9/7 in 20 mins in his rookie year. That would be a solid line considering all the variables. Anything more than that and I'd be ecstatic.

He was playing poorly in the 4th and he got benched. The rest of the game he was dominating. The coach made a decision to go small to match the other team. And yes, he is absolutely trouncing the competition in the LKL. I think people need to temper their expectations in terms of how quickly he'll adapt to the NBA and what kind of roll he'll be given on this team off the bat, but you can't read too much into how many minutes a teenager gets in a European professional league. Rubio never got higher than 23 in either the ACB or Euroleague. Jonas is doing everything he's supposed to be doing. Dominating his age group, playing well in International competition, playing a key roll on his club team and adding to his offensive repertoire so that he's not just a one-trick pony. If you watched tonight, Neptunas was occasionally sending doubles before he even touched the ball in the post. He's getting the respect of a star player.

I'm not saying he won't be good for us, or that he'll fail in the NBA, but if people may be expecting too much out of the gate.

I agree, but we already talked about it. We will see, I am sure he fits NBA so well, he will be valuable player, nice rookie, nothing too fancy. I do not expect double digits from him...

Domination is overused word. I wouldn't say he dominates Lithuanian league, but he is the most efficient player and is on or near the top in other areas, like FG%, rebounding, shot blocking, foul draws and so on...

I'm not sure it's foul trouble or not, but he's not even in the game and it's close and going down to the wire.

Lithuanian league (LKL) statistics.

Jonas Valančiūnas being Jonas Valančiūnas :

1st. in efficiency (23.3)
1st. in points per game (15.8)
2nd. in FG% (71.1%)
4th. in fouls drawn (4.8)
6th. in FT% (85.25%)
6th. in rebounds per game (7.4)
2nd. in Off. rebounds per game (2.9)
1st. in blocks per game (2)

Meanwhile, 47th. in minutes per game (23:18)

so what is dominating then? but i agree he has to get much stronger to play in nba. I also believe his first season will be pretty harsh, but then he'll become better as soon he gets stronger and adjusts to the style of play.

Someone is shooting over 71.1% over there?

That FG percentage is actually 2 pt % and 1st is Milovan Rakovic with 77.36%, otherwise stats in English can be found if you'll follow the link below.

Bosh averaged 11 and 7, playing mostly at the 5 as a rook. It will be interesting to compare the 2 next year

That might as well be his overall FG% since I don't think JV shoots three balls.

I guess I'm the most optimistic on JV.
Think if he doesnt foul too much he will be a solid player his 1st year.
See a double double season.
Which he hasn't the bulk he is more agile than most Cs and he also has the killer instinct..
Why he may foul a lot he will be fouled a lot and his free throw % is outstanding.
if he gets to line 3 times a game & can score 3 put backs that's a easy 10pts a game.

Especially since Jonas made that comparison on draft day.

You can't use LKL stats to judge anything. It's by far one of the very worst leagues in Europe. Just go by the VTB League and the Eurocup.

He's going to have a rough first year in the NBA. The speed of an NBA game is something very hard to get used to right away. Don't throw him under the bus if he doesn't perform right away.

Lithuanian league is one of the worst in europe? Now thats news for me. But i think its just your ignorance of europe basketball speaking. Lithuanian league is most certainly not the worst leagues in europe. It goes more to the mid-tier leagues with two superclubs who are at top-class level.

Didn't Ty Lawson suck it up in the LKL?

Claw is right, you cant take LKL numbers very seriously. Lithuanian league did suck, what are you guys talking about? Its a horrible league... And no, Ty did not sucked there.

Course there are plenty of second tier domestic leagues, and all the Swedish, Finnish leagues, If you include these, LKL is far from being worst league. Just stating facts...

On the other hand, most of College teams also suck, so I dont know, its all messed up...
