2nd rounders are too valuable to trade for a "slight upgrade".

Hey, I'm trying to get though this trade deadline without giving up a 1st or other valuable asset. Do you really think EG isn't going to make a win now move with the way the team is playing right now?

Ernie is delusional in the sense that he thinks we're a win now team as currently constructed. Add Mahinmi in the mix (who he believes in dearly), and he's very confident in what we have.

His mindset: "We're the hottest team in the East so I'm not going to trade anyone to upset the balance/chemistry. If it's not broken, don't fix it."

Right, Ted's mandate is that the Wizards "compete for the playoffs," so as long as the team is solidly in the playoff picture there's no reason to make a move.

I don't know. How's it going to look to the players when the other playoff teams in the east make moves to improve and we just stand pat?

Hey, whatever it takes to refrain from making a trade. If EG believes we're set, talentwise, I'm cool with it.

Unless there's a significant injury (knock on wood), I'd expect Ernie to stand pat, bask in his success and help Terd write some gobbledygook for Ted's Take to say how their brilliant plan was right all along.

Ernie is a practice patience until it's time to panic type of guy. So for now, no panic moves.

Jack maybe? I mean nelson would be an upgrade and would not cost much. Augustin but hes not really an upgrade. Rubio, the coast and the contract.....might be to high for a back up. Williams or berea might be gettable but they are both having issues staying healthy. Stukey who also can't stay healthy. I like jack and nelson as our best options. EG has had pretty good luck retreading back up vet guards. Nelson I like, Especially if we can steal that french kid from denver in a deal.

Am I the only one who sees blood in the water? The cavs might be showing their mortality and we are looking great. I kind of want to try and bring in a bench guy or two?
Lets say we sign Jarrett Jack, he comes in and he is still Jarrett Jack. Mahinmi comes back and is some hwo in shape and does his thing, Upgrade at PG and Center. Kelley keeps holding down the bench. Smith keeps it up. We maybe need one more guy, a shooter, maybe? Would a move for Evans or Barton, or tim hardaway not be worth the move? Hardaway could be had for a second or two, barton maybe 2 seconds and nicholson or maybe a heavily protected future first. Evans, maybe they bite on an unprotected first and a nicholson and burke (hard to sell but take the first and junk filler cuz hes walking anyway, would be the pitch)? Maybe we could make some use of burke or burke and a second for vince carter? A vet shooter off the bench would not hurt even if he is on his last leg. Jack and cater would be worlds better than burke and thornton. and if tomas play well they can become insurance.

If Grizzlies fall out of the top 8, VC would be an excellent target

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I wasn't thinking about salary jus getting the best bench possible for this playoff run...
Cleveland is at its most vulnerable...
And we're 3 games from 2nd seed...
That lineup is expensive but mannnn we can take on any team in any type of way...

Il figure out a way to get Lou and Leonard....but mahinmi is a 15mil hole in our pocket
Pay your beals....or its lights out!!!
Bron, Bosh, Wade is like Mike, Hakeem, barkley...3 top 5 picks from same draft
mike, hakeem and Barkley on the same team!!!!

NatP4 wrote:...Both Kawhi and PG were players that scouts said couldn't handle the ball at all and could only straight line drive. People also said Paul George had low bbiq and would get lost on defense and lose his focus. I personally don't see the Kawhi comparison, but the PG one is close to me.

I did absolutely watch PG at Fresno, I was one of the people that said he was a future superstar even at that time(also said this about Jeff green lol)

The things that Oubre lacks, he will improve on through playing time, court vision, driving lanes to the basket. He's improved massively on defense, he doesn't get lost anymore at all.

But if you say he has a ceiling as high as Paul George but isn't a Paul George type player, I understand that. He's clearly more athletic than ariza, has a better ball handling foundation as well, has massive off the dribble upside, what is that player comparison then?

Not sure what the comparison is, but it sure isn't Paul George, who was a silky smooth player coming out of college.

Biggest thing to remember about Oubre is that he played a total of 700+ minutes of college ball! IOW, his experience in high-level organized basketball was really tiny on draft day. For that reason alone, it's hard to know who to compare him to -- it's hard to know who he's going to be!

Oubre has developed really well in a bunch of ways; especially his bbiq, control on court, etc. & those were legit. questions given the above. What he hasn't developed is any right hand at all. If he had an off hand, he'd really be a load to defend.

I did say he has a higher ceiling than Paul George -- but... I don't think PG is a superstar by any means. He's very good, but there a bunch of 3s who are better -- some way way better (including Otto Porter, btw).

How high is Oubre's ceiling? I.e. can he be a star or superstar? Who the Hell knows? So far there's a lot to be happy about, & that's good enough.

Brogdon was drafted in Round 2 last year -- he was the # 36 pick! Biggest draft bargain since Draymond Green & Jae Crowder (the guys we passed on in 2012 to nab Tomas Satoransky).

I'll wait till Porter makes anywhere in the vicinity of 61 of 64 FT's in a playoff series before making a statement like that.

I picked him as the best value pick in the draft, but... you get struck by lightning if you mention him in the same breath as (exhale) Green. Again, he's 24 years old.

That's crazy talk. Paul George is the type of guy who can hit a shot in crunch-time, he's the type of guy who scores at a higher rate in the playoffs than in the regular season. His team is garbage, I give him a pass. If he replaced Porter on the Wizards and was given the same 3rd option role on offense, he would have more energy to be a fiend on defense and be much more efficient on offense. He's a great shooter, imagine him taking only spot-up 3's. Watch an Indiana game and he takes a lot of contested jumpers.

So if he makes a trade to help the team, you complain about being "buyers" and moving assets, if he stands pat, you complain about him not doing anything.

You do realize that you literally twist everything into a ridiculous narrative, atleast other Ernie haters can be somewhat objective on here. You would complain about Ernie trading a 3rd round pick for Michael Jordan.

Right. Numbers don't matter. Unlike Otto, Paul George is "a great shooter." & that's true even though his 2pt.% is .48, whereas Otto's is .58. & it's true even though his 3pt. % is .388 & Otto's is .456.

Moreover, Otto's only 1 turnover per 48 minutes isn't really better than PG's 3.8 turnovers per 48 minutes. Pay no attention to that.

Otto's got a .64 TS% to PG's .576 -- but, really, what could be less important than that? After all, every 48 minutes Paul George scores 10 more points than Otto Porter, & that's all that counts. Yes, he has to use about 15 extra possessions to get those 10 extra points, but why should that matter?

Yikes....

What's an "Ernie hater" Nat? Is that a guy who thinks 14 years at @ a .42 winning percentage is too much?

As to people complaining too much about trades, why don't you list some of those terrific trades you think Ernie has made?

Ernie Grunfeld, by any objective measure, is one of the least effective, least successful GMs in the last 2 decades of the NBA. Wouldn't you agree?
