I find it hard to believe that a guy would cost himself a that much money (last year patrick williams signed a 4/32 and okoro 4/29). 3 mil even spread out over 4 years is alot of money to an 19 year old.
Also, lets be honest, the raptors are the better run franchise with the better coach (COY 2019-2020) and the team much more likely to compete right now

I highly doubt hes giving all that up just because he doesnt want to move to canada, especially toronto which is essentially the NY of canada. Its not like he was gonna be drafted to play in saskatoon or something. Also, hes from Saint paul Minn, and choose to go to college in Washington, both places basically bordering canada, and not exactly major markets or anything

1. tax-free Orlando vs rhe taxes you pay in Canada.

2. Suggs came from MIN right? maybe he was tired of all the snow and wanted sunshine?

3. Our only legit PG is injured ( Fultz ) so ROY being handed the keys to a YOUNG team is appealing than a vet-laden one?

4. Who knows really...

Honestly idk what all the hype is about Barnes. He is a big and strong guy. But people in the Toronto board think he can actually play pointguard. He is not explosive enough with the ball and doesn't have good enough handles to be playing point guard. He dribbles the ball very high and would turn the ball over a lot. If you watch his games, most of his assist from the motion of the FS offense and some point forward top of the key type action, he wasn't out there breaking down offenses. I def can see some Draymond Green style in his game.

Watch this video of him and tell me in what world would you want this guy running the point?

Shaq, Penny, T-Mac, Dwight … ??

We have been waiting a while to add another true SUPER STAR to the Orlando Magic franchise.

I still have the itch in the back of my head. Why can’t anyone breakdown Suggs’ path to SUPER STARDOM for me? Surely he has some mega fans on here who fully believe in him, right?

So walk me through it.

I promise I’m not being negative. I truly want to believe. I really do. I just need some help. People keep saying Jrue Holiday … which is great and all but super star? Eh.

Yeah... my only tinfoil hat theory was TOR really wanted Barnes BUT wanted us to give up assets to.move up 1 spot and they still get who they want.

We let it be known that we are perfectly happy to accept whoever falls down but would have no problem with Barnes. Thus all that smoke that we are all set for Barnes here as supposed experts wrote.

Since TOR probably didnt want to take the chance that we get Barnes, they obviously could not risk the OKC and GSW trade as rumors said.. thus they had to take who they wanted knowing we are happy to get whoever and we arent making deals to.just jump 1 spot.

1: He is very explosive and strong.
2: Plays above the rim a lot, especially when going down hill or getting space into the lane
3: His style of play will draw a ton of contact ( he plays bully ball)
5: He has a very tight handle and can break down an offense and read defenses extremely well
6: His offensive arsenal is already loaded
7: His shooting will be respected, as his form is very good ( which is why his free throw shooting is good)
8: He was known as one of the better defenders in the league. (you will see a lot of steals/highlight blocks from him)
9: He has a combined record of like 125 wins and 15 losses, having won 90% of his games at a highschool/college level.. He is a true floor general.
10: He still has plenty of room to grow, during high school he spent half the year playing football.

He is easily one of those most complete players we have ever drafted and there is very little weakness in his overall game on both ends. The guy is just a winning type of player, and his hype is not based on what he could be, but what he is right now. His game looks as NBA ready as Cade and he is going to be a 2 way player.

Watch him go up and block a 7 footer at the rim, then turn around and make a full court one handed bounce pass on the break. Dude is legit.

No? Suggs is a baller and a winner. He’s also from Minnesota and went to Gonzaga. Occam’s razor is.. Toronto just liked Barnes better. No tin foil hat needed. And no, billion dollar organizations don’t make their decision based on one 1 on 0 workout.

Lemme fix that for you...

Ok il take a stab at it.

Size - 6'5 maybe 6'6 in shoes depending on tinfoil hats who disects pictures. For a 1-2 thats a very good size.

Ballhandling - as we saw with Luka, Tra, Kawhi, etc.. we saw franchise leaders aka stars have the handles to have the ball when it counts

Playmaking - same as above... look at the mvp, jokic, he runs plays for his team despite being the C.

Scoring - yeah you saw his games right?

Shooting - same as above. dude was doing turn around fade-aways, 3pt range and the like. You know.. something that we all have been screaming for.

Athleticism - football player + basketball player

Health and Heart - you saw that game where everyone said that was an ACL injury? next thing you know he went out of the locker room and went back for the 2nd half. Kinda unlike my fave team with Zion who blew his shoe and refused to go back in.

Clutchness - well theres only 1 memorable clutch shot that i remember hence i have Cade above him.

well he certainly have the talent skills and tools.. ita only his mind and work ethic that determinea if he cam be a superstar, star or just good.

For lack of a better direct comparison I think of Suggs like a hybrid combo of a few players.

Chauncey Billups/ Kyle Lowry/ Jrue Holiday / Brandon Roy

None of these guys are flashy, but you WANT them on your team because of how cerebral they are combined with their athleticism and leadership qualities. They are winners.

I added Roy because I think Suggs has his ability to create and hit big shots while being able to finish at the rim. His defense is good too. He averaged 2.8 steals a game…. Not to mention he’s capable of playing both guard spots. He does all the things that don’t show up on a stat sheet.

Just a solid all-around player that has very few flaws to his game at such a young age.

When Fultz comes back, does it mean Suggs will play 2 spot more often? I don't think Fultz can play 2 spot, cause he is too small.

I can see Fultz plays 1 more often with Cole as our 6th man or back up PG

Fultz and Suggs both are more than capable of guarding SG's in this league. They are big PG's that can play together. Cole is a backup and RJ is a 2 anyway.

I don't think it's fair to put those types of expectations on him but he does have the 'it' factor without being ridiculously athletic. There are so many great games from his freshman season to look at. Here is just a random video I was watching of the conference championship game. His playmaking, shot making and confidence is through the roof. Some of his passes are Jason Kidd like. He sees the court so well.

Great pick for the Magic...

BTW, I'm with the conspiracy theory that Toronto wanted Barnes all along and the "Bad Workout" that Suggs had was more of a copout... Usually the Workouts don't do much to move the needle for a player.

The reason why the Raptors passed on Suggs is because Masai Ujiri believes he can turn Barnes into the next Giannis/Raptors Kawhi. He has been chasing the ghost of Giannis since he missed out on him in 2013. He picked Bruno with the 20th pick in 2014 which failed badly. Took Siakam with the 27th pick in 2016 and it paid off. He was also chasing SGA in 2018. He just loves tall players who are athletic, have long wingspan and know how to play defense.

90% of the Raptors fan didn't like the pick because the chance of Barnes turning into the next Giannis is close to 0. When you have a consensus top 4 pick in one of the best drafts in years, you obviously don't overthink it and pick one of them.

Masai clearly ****ed up and it cost the Raptors a potential superstar in Suggs.

My comp for Suggs is Jrue Holiday- Lowry hybrid.
Is that superstar? No, but i'm confident that Suggs will be best Magic PG in last 15 years. Huge upgrade over likes of MCW, Payton, Fultz, DJ Augustin and all other scrubs were were playing

poor take. if you think suggs has superstar potential, there are better reasons to believe Barnes has potential to become a superstar that wins championships. barnes is far from a finished product just like suggs, but suggs is a small boy when compared to barnes and he's way more versatile and has higher iq on the defensive end, he also has vision, ball handling and playmaking skills. how often do you find a guy who's 6'8 with a 7'4 wingspan that have these skills and attributes, let alone a 19 year old? you can't teach many of these things. you put him in the raptors development program, watch the **** out. he's more talented than OG and Siakam when they came out of college. most Raptors fans didn't like the pick initially because most were buying the media hype and this cOnSenSus toP 4 drivel. don't know how you can confidently say Masai clearly **** up when this man has drafted and developed studs in the past, has scouted these prospects since their mid teens, worked them out individually, extensively interviewed them, watched every single one of their games, has a better idea of what wins championships, and hasspoken to people who are plugged in to all these prospects. "He just loves tall players who are athletic, have long wingspan and know how to play defense." well yeah, you can't teach height, long wingspans, defensive versatility and athleticism and there is an abundance of smaller skilled guards. he's going for the home run and he has to if he wants to win more championships.

Can we just NOT that bull*** where we will be starting Fultz at PG and Suggs playing his backup or SG ?

Can we flush toilet on those non shooting PGs and failed rebuilds ?( RIP 2012-2020 )
Is there in play trade for top 59 protected pick for Fultz? Hopefully.
