One of my best friends just met Grimes tonight in Vegas (post game at whatever hotel they are staying at).

Are we taking this is as a positive sign or an omen?

Leon Rose's time as a top player representation would be useful here. I would assume he is somewhat competent in accessing player value because that used to be part of his job. Now, he is on the other side of the negotiating table and will have to lead the knicks defend against an ass-whooping in transactions

yeah, okay, if it's not about basketball success but really about advertising and marketing, i can see it. Won't work. We won't do better than Utah did and will probably do worse but THEY CAN ADVERTISE IT LIKE MAD.

Knicks fan scared of trying to get good.

Not at all. It'd be exciting to get him but he's not THAT good after all. He's exceeded expectations but we're not talking about a dominant player. Jazz had a good team with great coaching and they're breaking it up.

I think we're in a position where we can wait. What's the rush? Let him be traded to another team. Maybe we get him later.

We are ONE season away from really knowing what we have if we can ditch Randle with a couple protecte picks or something. LOTS of incoming information:

Mitch - does he perform well now that he's playing regularly and has financial peace of mind. Any offense?

Grimes - good rookie year and has a lot of upside, don't care that he's not 6-8. It's a lot about shooting in this league.

Obi and Quick had a pretty notable burst to end the season. We will know if it's up or down next year. If they are just mediocre, then that's where they'll be after next year. No more time to waste before taking the next steps and so we are about to see. I think Obi is 50-50 on a pretty big leap, starting level quality.

RJ -- same. Is he worth it, does he improve or fall back?

And all the picks can be used, no big rush.

Even McBride has potential. I'm high on Jericho. Very high.

there is no shame in taking it. its better than sitting on our hands and watching Mitchell Robinson make 17m/year to hit 50% FTs

You’ll still be watching that - except now you’ll have no draft picks and nothing left to trade on your roster.

bro

you dont get it

we already have RJ and Randle and now Brunson.

for the next 3 years those 3 can sleep walk and we won't be a lottery team. those picks aren't going to be "good".

It's just so fascinating to me that fans of this team cannot just look at teams across the league and see that the "Trade everything for XYZ" **** doesn't really work.

Danny Ainge can go kick rocks trying to take our whole bench and every pick. We can wait for Doncic to ask out when the Mavs get bounced out the 1st round next year.

Lets rank some of the top 25 players in the NBA and whether or not they can be traded for

1/ Luka- no
2/ Jokic - no
3/ giannis -no
4/ curry- no
5/ LeBron - no
6/ durant- yes, but cant be traded here
7/ kawhi no
8/tatum- no
9/ embiid - no
10/ booker- no
11-25/
j butler- no
ja morant - no
Donovan Mitchell -yes
siakam - no
kat- no
Brandon ingraham- no
lamello - no
Anthony davis - no
trae young - no
gobert - no
Jalen brown - no
lavine - no
jrue holiday - no
beal - no
Lillard- no

now lets say for arguments sake you dont even believe Donovan Mitchell is a top 25 player, and lets rattle off some guys:

jalen brunson -no
Tyrese halliburton- no
mikal bridges - yes
bam adebayo - no
FVV- no
vucevic - yes
John collins- yes
Darius garland- no
SGA- no
sabonis- no
Desmond bane- no
Marcus smart - no
... and tons of other guys at this level- no.

im sure im missing some guys here and there in the top 25.

So realistically you have to get into the "Mikal Bridges" level of player, around rank 40. Basically guys who are #3s on winning teams and #4-5 on championship level teams.

so exactly who else can we get thats better than Donovan Mitchell?

This is flawed logic. We dont HAVE to get Mitchell just because hes the best player available we can get right now.

Other players will become available. Chit happens all the time, and in the meantime we can make the playoffs again as a young team with all our assets.

But hey I guess it’s true, you cant rebuild in NY after all.

Eh at one time Dolan loved JR and Isiah and others. They eventually got the hook after performing poorly.

Just wanted to interject here - Vanderbilt is good. He's like Mitch in that his draft stock tumbled due to weird circumstances (injuries in his case) but he started a lot of games for the Wolves and is a defensive monster who can move the ball.

We don't need him. You don't empty your roster for a very good player. He's not as good as Melo and Melo wasn't worth it either lol. Sorry folks.

Sounds like the 2nd round (losing) is like winning the Championship for you. I sympathize with u being a Knick fan a looooong time. But to pay a king's ransom to play 4 more games a year??? I think that's an overpay.

What will Randle's role on this team be if we end up with Mitchell. I know it's not a done deal yet but i'm really keen to hear thoughts on hypothetically how this team plays with a starting 5 of Brun/Spida/RJ/Randle/Mitch.

Does the addition of Brunson and Spida - both big ticket signings - give Thibs and FO greater confidence to put Randle in his place?

Not in my eyes, but posters here mentioned he was all-NBA two years ago so I wanted to point out the irony.

Firstly, why are you only accounting for 3 years when the picks are potentially being traded until 2029?

Why do you keep bringing up Randle as an asset? He’s not good and I don’t care if he’s 18 or 25 or 30.

We’ve already discussed this. The starting lineup has no shooting or spacing. You’re setting yourself to be disappointed. I know you said “won’t get disappointed” but ain’t no way this team is winning 50 games as currently constructed by just adding Donovan Mitchell. Zero percent chance.

Just make Ainge an offer of a few picks and Randle. Take it or leave it. Never bid against yourself.

I like Grimes but I think a lot of you are overrating him. He’s killing it in the summer league. He showed promise last year when he played but for Mitchell he’s expendable
