I mean. The team we sent isn't particularly big or athletic. Not enough of our top stars even wanted to go.

Not big but they were athletic compared to the FIBA competition. I agree though that it's not like the entire roster was filled with athletic freaks.

Let's be real though, were those the best players that the USA team could bring? Answer that question and reevaluate your answers

There isn't a single young american player that wows me right now. Tatum is very good but if he is your best young american, then thats a big big problem. He wouldn't even be a top 5 american in the past eras.

Talent does cycle, of course. We're still dealing with the overhang from the previous generation. KD, Lebron, Steph, Lillard, etc. It'll be a while before we see another big rise. This has been a very, very talented era.

Ja Morant doesn't wow you?

On and off the court Ja Morant is the true definition of WOW!

Who else can do a 360 dunk then go to the club and 360 with the glizzy. Ja Morant is WOW!

I don't think he meant just with athleticism, but in totality as a player. He's not particularly bright, can't shoot, is inefficient and has heath issues every season. He doesn't wow me either, even if his drives to the hoop are quite impressive.

The best American player right now is still Curry imo. I have Tatum as the 2nd best American player.

Curry changed the game and is still a WOW kind of player.

I love watching Steph play.

Tatum vs. Lillard is an interesting one. I wonder if you'd still take Tatum had Dame played 70+ games and maintained that 32 ppg average? Dude was shooting 57% below the arc and rocking the same OBPM he led the league with in 2020 (8.3), just over 58 games.

Tatum is the best USA players below the age of 30 years old.....USA are always going to have the most depth in talent but if you look at the true franchise player in this league where you can win a title with this players as the best players of the team,USA don't have this advantage at this point

If American NBA players are overrated then all NBA players are overrated. The best players from other countries all have glaring weaknesses and none of them have dominated like American players. For example, over the last decade LeBron and Steph have 8 combined titles whereas Giannis and Jokic have 2 combined titles.

There have only been 4 or 5 foreign Finals MVPs over the last 20 years. The rest are Americans.

How many stars from Europe have come over to the NBA and flamed out to the point they can't even secure a bench role

NBA does make good players (from all countries) look better. It's just good business to do so, people love it.

I mean American players overall are still the most dominant, but the world has closed the gap a ton.

You look at the top 10 players today and half of them are foreign: Embiid, Giannis, Jokic, Doncic, and Shai.

That's pretty remarkable. And then you have other all-star/all-NBA caliber players like Siakam, Gobert, Sabonis, Markennan, Porzingis, Vucevic etc.

10 years ago the top 10 players were almost all American: Lebron, Wade, Kobe, Curry, Durant, Westbrook, Rose, Paul, Harden, and maybe you could slide in Dirk or Tony Parker in there.

The whole tone of this thread is wrong to begin with. Instead of trying to crap on American players, we should be thrilled over the fact that the rest of the world is starting to produce big-time players in larger numbers now, increasing the quality of the NBA. Increasing competition. Steamrolling the world was cool in 92, defending it in 96 the same. After a while, that becomes a formality. But thankfully, the world got better. If the US were sending it's best to all of these competitions, we would still see them crushing, but that's not how they are doing things. As the world increases in skill and focus on basketball, though, we're seeing competition and that's fantastic for the quality of basketball.

American players aren't overrated, but we're seeing the result of international talent development and that's awesome.

It's great to see a lot of international talent and fortunately that's the case, since the best American who is aged below 30 years old right now is Tatum....Great player but he's not a legendary player like we have always had in USA before
