Kornet was great until KP went down.

When Kornet was the #1 Center, replacing KP, the Magic feasted inside.

The Wagner group and Paolo got everything they wanted inside when it was Kornet patrolling the paint.

It's true Kornet as the 3rd Center is fine.

But it's when he's forced to be the #1 guy in the middle, that will be a problem.

What if something like this happened in the playoffs?

Can the Celtics really survive a playoff series with Kornet starting at Center for a whole series?

I mean, white could have gone over there as he was at the key with no one in sight... NO ONE... but nope, that would involve not blaming jb.

True, Al was much closer to Franz than Jaylen was, but things wouldn't have been like that if Jaylen ran back on defense instead of slowly backpedaling. Because below is what things looked like when the Magic secured the rebound. So you are right in the sense that Horford could've picked up Franz to erase Jaylen's lack of effort, although that would've created a tough mismatch for Jaylen with Banchero steaming down his way.

Curse of Mo Wagner? Orlando has been a pain for the Celtics for a while.

He grew up a Celtics fan. (Was his younger brother a Celtics fan too?) The Celtics acquired him, then quickly deaccessed him, keeping Luke Kornet and Jabari Parker in his place -- both of whom were let go themselves, although Kornet is obviously back.

All that said -- if Wagner had remained a Celtic, he might well have been gone last summer in the trades anyway.

Do not have the time to read all the thread, so apologize if it was said already.
This game showed how essential for team play is Jrue and KP. Without one the team could more or less survive, without both it was difficult (on offense and also on defense). So if both Jays have an off-night and there is also no Jrue and no KP - what can you expect?

The difference between the Jays is one found ways to contribute while the other kept firing away, hoping to get his groove back.

Live and die by the 3 lol. Chuck as many 3’s as you can haha. Even White, and newly acquired Jrue, turned into a chuckster.

Some of them were really good looks. Here's a nice action where Tatum as decoy frees up Porzingis.

Here, Jaylen drives hard against the zone and *quickly* passes it out to Porzingis for an open corner three. Porzingis will find his shooting touch again, soon.

JB is shooting a career-low 44.4% from the field.

This is even worse than his rookie year.

Not good enough, and Tatum needs to shoot more to mitigate his bad shooting nights.

Tatum is way too content to let others shoot during big runs by the other team instead of demanding the ball and trying to take over the game

We need Tatum to play better and much more aggressively than the last stretch of games, hopefully it’s just been him being sick. Jaylen needs to be much better in general, its 15 games in for him, and he has a negative BPM, a 54% TS, and a -13.8 on/off.

One thing that has me pretty hopeful for the offense is they’ve just had horrible shooting luck off of Tatum’s creation. That has to correct somewhat, the screenshot below shows what players on the team shoot from three, on passes from each player.

Jaylen shooting 19% from three on passes from Tatum, KP 16%, Pritchard 22%, Holiday 29%, Al 19% lol.

His running looks a little odd so something must've happened at the other end.

That's just how he runs whenever he does something embarrassing on the offensive end.

To be fair, that one could be a foul on Suggs. We should see the other angle.

I don't think I even remember this but Magic fans say this whole thing is because Eddie House rudely made fun of their team last season.

It sucks because the first few weeks with this team were so promising and the last week has given fans serious pasue (and rightfully so).

Jaylen shooting tour dates half the time and Tatum being so passive is really infuriating to watch. That stretch in the beginning of the 4th where they needed a bucket and Tatum passed out to Pritchard every time was just beyond annoying.

I know he's sick, but this trend has been going on since the Raptors game in Toronto and he wasn't then

Yep, it was after our first loss to them back in December. House called their team "still garbage" that won't make the playoffs, post-game. Magic players clapped back and even tweeted the gif below after they won again the following meeting.

They've now won 4 straight against us. B2B matchups coming up again soon in Boston.

I was a year too early, but before last season on here, I predicted that the Magic could sneak into the playoffs.

Don’t think it’ll be sneaking in this year.

Tatum's -21 is his 2nd worst in the Mazzulla era (-25 in 33-pt loss vs. OKC last season).

The idea that Tatum was passive is again just deranged reconstruction of fans. Other than a couple of plays which were clearly designed for Tatum to be a decoy, and transitions for other players or plays where Jaylen just took it upon himself to be the offense, Tatum was at the center of halfcourt creation in the 4th. He was essentially either shooting or making the last or the second to last pass in a shooting chain in 50% of all possessions, and something like 11 of 14 halfcourt possessions. You'd be hard pressed to see Harden or Lebron or Luka have that much offensive load.

Here's the breakdown of offensive possessions in the 4th.

1st - Tatum drives into the middle and passes to cutting Brissett for freethrows.
2nd - Play obviously designed for non-Tatum players. Tatum stands in the wings while the rest of the team goes 4 on 4.
3rd - Play obviously designed for non-Tatum players.
4th - Tatum backs down #2 but sees Horford with a mismatch. Horford posts up Ingles but travels.
5th - Jaylen goes coast to coast, 1-2 from the line.
6th - Jaylen airballs a midrange.
7th - Tatum hits trailing Horford in semi-transition who passes to Hauser in the corner for a 3.
8th - Tatum sees Hauser wide open in the corner before he even crosses the half court line. Miss.
9th - Tatum wide open pull up three. Miss.
10th - Tatum drives baseline against Franz for 2 freethrows.
11th - Tatum drives middle for a layup.
12th - White pnr, 2 freethrows
13th - Jaylen the first player to touch the ball cross the half court line, takes an ill-advised pull up three
14th - Jaylen misses a layup in transition
15th - White misses a layup in semi-transition
16th - Tatum posts up and drives baseline against Franz for a layup.
17th - White transition layup, gets 2 free throws.
18th - White drives and kicks out to Jaylen, miss.
19th - Tatum 2 free throws in transition.
20th - Tatum drives against Franz, 2 fee throws.
21st - Tatum against JI. Fakes him out and draws a foul. Free throws.
22nd - Jaylen the only player to touch the ball. Drives and throws up a runner that bricks.
23rd - Magic slow to get back. White semi-transition layup. Gets free throws.
Game over.
