I did some early calculations, and if we combined our #28 pick and he #37 (MEM), the standard value we could get back is #22.

I was actually thinking TC should trade back on the high pick and then trade back at least one more time from there. We have 3 available 2nds to trade and no firsts going forward. Getting 3 more seconds would be huge and we aren’t exactly in the market for players who take 2-3 years to develop. We will have Minott, Miller, Clarke, and the late 20s or even #30 pick to develop. That is not even mentioning Moore who is currently occupying a roster spot. I think we are fine adding assets instead of bodies.

Not a bad idea. It also lessens the cap hold which is kinda key...

Pretty good thinking but don't count Connelly out on finding somebody real good with one of our picks this year.

In this draft I don’t think it’s worth moving up, mid first rounders and second rounders are about the same level players.

Right. I trust Connelly, and if he makes a move up or down, I’m going to assume that kid is a good pick.
I’d also add that whenever you can draft a player that outperforms his draft slot, you have increased your trade equity. This can be a profit engine with a good drafter like Connelly. We like Minott and Miller, but some other GM might like them more and pay more for it, whether that’s a better vet player, or future picks.

Good point. But in that theory isn’t it better to draft 2 players and trust TC to hit on above draft slot value at 28 and 37? I mean the 2nd could be signed as a two way and then converted to the special 4 year deal by the team you trade him to next year.

Wherever the best value is. For example, I had no problem with Connelly using two seconds to grab Leonard Miller.
But with an expensive team already, Connelly could use the last 2-3 cheap roster spots for developing his picks for a year, and trade them for more picks.

Re: Trade Talk (Part 15): Trade Deadline Day (and onwards!)
If the owners are willing, it would also be a good idea to buy picks.
For example, I believe the Wolves should have traded Wendell Moore Jr and cash to a team with cap space or a TPE, to clear more space under the lux for free agent pick ups. In any dumping trade, the other team needs to send the Wolves “something,” and it is often a top 55 protected 2nd rounder that will not confer.
My trade was WMJ + $3 mil cash, but a better move would be WMJ + $5 mil in cash for cap space and a legitimate 2nd rounder. Now, I don’t know if the owners had that kind of appetite to pay $5 mil to add assets (and protect themselves from the lux), but these days, with fans being so aware of NBA transactions, this would be a good way for an opposing team to sell a pick without getting much anger from their fans. The GM can say, “We have always liked Moore and we think he can grow,” when the real reason is the cash.

My prediction is that TC trades down to get off of WMJ and then trades down again to acquire future seconds. A perfect draft is getting one solid prospect, move off of WMJ 5 million deal and get two future second round picks. With the acquisition of Monte, there could be a roster crunch next season as Kyle and Mike are almost certain to come back. There are reports that Minnesota and Mike are talking about an extension and much like Naz last year, TC doesn't hold on to Kyle unless they are close on an extension.
Next year's roster
Conley/Ant/Jaden/Gobert/Towns/Monte/NAW/Kyle/NAZ/Miller/Minott/'24 second/Vet FA on Minimum or Jayden Clark.
I see the Wolves only leaving the '24 draft with one player.

This draft discussion should be moved to the draft thread.

The discussion is about trading draft picks, not about individual prospects.

Not a big deal, but trading Draft picks not players seems more like draft thread discussion to me.

Would yall trade KAT for Steph?
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Steph is 35 so no. He may only have one or two great years remain. Steph+Ant would be the most dynamic back court in NBA history.

Couldn’t make the money work. Even with the bump Steph will make more than Karl.

I am still chaffed about the Luxury-Tax fumble at the Trade Deadline.

Correct me if I'm wrong but salary cap is determined at the end of the year right?
So we don't need to actually trade anyone until next trade deadline no?

I think you mean our payroll, and that is correct - for lux taxes.
However, the second apron restrictions (no MLE, trade limitations, etc) will be in place all year.

Re: Trade Talk (Part 15): Trade Deadline Day (and onwards!)
So now that the deadline is behind us, this thread will get pretty quiet for a few months, so let me throw out some craziness.
Last month, there were some rumors that LeBron wants to play with Bronny. Suppose that’s true, suppose Bronny enters the draft, and with the Lakers having the #57 pick, suppose Tim Connelly uses the #37 on him.
1. I have a hard time seeing LeBron leaving the Lakers. What trade offer would you accept from LA for Bronny?
2. If LeBron was willing to leave the Lakers, coming to MIN for a chance to add a sixth ring (tying Jordan) would be far more likely than going to a non-contender. MIN has no cap space, but they might be able to trade for LeBron before they sign Conley and go over the second apron. The obvious trade is Towns for LeBron. Would you do it? Would LAL, if that’s what LeBron wanted?
