Draft Thread Part 8: 4th pick !!!!

Watching Suggs in the tourney gave me the same vibe as watching DWade or Steph in the tourney. THIS was the guy. He just had IT. Was going to follow his career regardless but would be super happy if he was a Raptor.

The ONLY reason I'm scared about this Barnes talk is that Masai has NEVER drafted this high and almost all of his picks have been taking a defensive-minded player whose measurements check out. He's hit homeruns doing this (outside of Poltel over Sabonis and taking Bruno) but the strategy isn't always for the top of the draft.

I hope he has a different strategy this high in the draft. Given the make up of our current core, I hope a bit more emphasis is placed on offense.

He went safe at 9 with Poetl... To me that screams two run homer with Suggs. If Mobley falls to 4 because of Cleveland Rocks then Grand Salami and Cheese.

The real question is if Mobley goes 2, and the Cavs end up drafting Kuminga or Barnes in a shocker. This would leave Jalen Green and Suggs.

Kuminga is the 3 run homerun

MU only went safe w Poetl bc it was a clear top 8 draft. That's actually a perfect example of the scouts getting it right, just not the order.

The clear top 8 going into that draft by most was, Simmons, Ingram, Bender, Dunn, Hield, Brown, Murray, Chriss.

Draft in a sense is just luck most of the time ,I ve gone back and looked at consensus picks since 2000 and it doesn't quarrantee anything, most quarrantees doesn't mean it will work out and most question marks can improve and be a franchise player ,

In the end it all comes to the character and work ethic of the individual

Wiggins was being compared to lebron, checked all the boxes out of college could create his own shot, defend athletic etc even though he's not a bust hasn't lived out to expectations

Attempt to trade Kyle for Raymond Felton and what would have been a late first round pick
Poeltl over Sabonis.
Overpaid DeMarre Carroll and wound up using a first round pick to dump his contract on Brooklyn.
Used 2 second round picks to rent PJ Tucker for less than half a season then let him walk in free agency.
Tried to sign LaMarcus Aldridge as a free agent even though it would have meant 2 non-3 point shooters as our top scorers (we saw how that went in San Antonio). Failed anyway.
Took ages for them to figure out that Terrence Ross was not a good enough defender to make up for DeRozan's horrible defense, we had a huge hole at SF for years and it cost us playoff series after playoff series.
Missed out on the James Johnson as a small ball C (Miami figured this out and had some success with it after we dumped him).
Signed Aaron Baynes for $7M when other better guys were available for half the money (Bobby Portis, Dwight Howard, even Alex Len was decent for Washington after he left Tampa).

It's not like they've never made a bad move, failed to fix a glaring issue with the team, or misused a player who had better success elsewhere.

I have nothing against you (especially for liking Kuminga since I was probably higher on him than anyone at the start of the season) but when you claim to know what a gm thinks then be ready for the response. You’re the one claiming facts because you know oh so much but then get exposed by the fact that you’re just as clueless as anyone on RealGM
