People really worried about losing Butler that much? I'd like to keep him too, but obviously he clears up more room for Melo to get that offer somewhat competitive. We'll get some decent veteran minimums to round out the roster

Rose
McDermott-Snell
Melo-McDermott
Taj-Bairstow
Noah-Smith

Plus a RMLE and a couple ring chasers.

Bulls will offer him the max possible, that really isn't a question, he isn't coming here otherwise

No, I don't think anyone could rationally think that. They'll both brick open shots but one guy draws a lot of fouls and plays all-NBA defense (regardless of who made the all-NBA defense team). The other is bad at chest bumping and basketball but has good shooting form.

How come losing Jimmy has never been brought up before? Why haven't we considered this?

I'm gonna be pretty upset if he's gone.

Also, would we still have our MLE? We could use it on Avery Bradley to fill the void.

with the way 2nd tier FAs are getting paid prolly not likely :(

You're right, but it looks like a lot of that is because teams are valuing perimeter shooting.

I'd say the Bradley market is about 6-7mil, maybe a bit less considering injury concerns. And he might take a little bit less to start on a contender.

Though sources have indicated the Bulls would be aggressive in making necessary moves if Anthony verbally committed, the Bulls would have to amnesty Carlos Boozer and trade Mike Dunleavy, Jimmy Butler and Anthony Randolph for a starting salary of $16.9million.

Exactly. We just have to be wiling to do it to force Phil to agree to the sign & trade if/when Melo commits to the Bulls. We shouldn't have to give up more than picks and maybe either Mirotic or McBuckets while keeping Taj and Jimmy and either Mirotic or McBuckets. Just comes down to Melo deciding he wants to be here.

Snell has low basketball iq

I don't trust him any more than he can foul a person in the back court.

I'd much rather pay someone a pick to offload Snell than lose Jimmy. Obviously if losing Jimmy is what it takes for Carmelo, you do it, but given Jimmy's very small salary, it would seem there are better alternatives.

Someone made a comparison to the OKC Thunder if we acquire Melo. OKC's problem is that they don't get enough consistent scoring from 3-9. Their supporting cast is filled with low volume scorers.

McDermott and Mirotic should keep us from trending down that lane, but if Butler is going to play heavy minutes like he did last season, he can't score so little. He really has to make a jump in his scoring. 15-16 per 36.

To be honest Butler is not as bad on offense as people believe. He averaged 13 points per game this year. Kawhi averaged 12 and AriZa averaged 14 points. Butler is only 24 and his shot is going to improve. It's not like hes thabo who only averaged 6 ppg.

It's a real pity McDermott isn't an SG. He fits the mold of what we need in an SG, on the offensive end at least, to a tee.

I highly doubt the Bulls, especially Thibs, have more faith in Snell than Butler.

Jimmy is Thibs go-to guy and someone he feel perfectly comfortable playing excessive minutes, and Thibs trust of Snell, even in a backup role, was wavering.

At least he can bring the ball up unlike Teague, such a bad pick. :banghead:
