Kevin Huerter = JJ Redick-lite.

I'd be okay with that at 17.

I would too. I don't think he looks like Redick at all though.

Mike Miller.

Solid athleticism. Great shooter. Bit of an in between game. Smart defender. Good passer.

I don't even see that honestly. Maybe like Miami Miller when he couldn't even walk. I really just don't see anything in any video I've watched that makes me believe he's translating as pretty much anything besides a turret with an awesome shot.

He's got a little more burst than you're giving him credit for. He's pretty shifty off the dribble. Not a guy who's going to blow past you on pure athleticism, but his feet are always moving off the bounce and once he sees an opening he's got long strides which allow him to glide to the hoop faster than you'd think.

You watch this and think, old guy with serious back issues? I see a 19 year old kid who's an elite shooter without any absolutely glaring weaknesses in his game. He's super young for his class, I think that bodes well for his overall development.

I think he's got an extremely weak first step and his only move off the dribble seems to be a pretty basic hesitation with a crossover thrown in sometimes, I don't see it working much at the next level. His quickness off of screens doesn't seem that impressive either and he'll be hounded by some pretty great defenders if that ever became the thing compounding the problems.

Like I get it though. If you think the other stuff translates he's got that one skill that will open things up and make it easier but overall I'm just not seeing it. I think he's much to limited to translate to much more than a shooter.

I get why you'd want to look for a higher ceiling guy but I see Huerter as an amazing fit for a coach Bud system and Giannis centric team. I also see him taking big strides athletically after some years with Suki and her staff.

Not even just the ceiling for me, I think his floor is pretty damn low too. He could be CJ Wilcox.

Man, I love Vanderbilt. Would have to know what the doctors and trainers say.

My top guys at this point are Okogie, Bates-Diop, Troy Brown in that order although there are about a dozen guys I'd be fine with.

I really we avoid Zhaire though

Where do you think he'll go? Stock seems relatively low for him at the moment. I like his game and toughness though.

People are saying he's 45+, but I think that's bull ****. I think he goes in the first if his medicals are ok.

Looney went in the first and granted he was healthy all year, but teams knew he was going to miss season with his hip. As long as his long term prognosis is good, Vanderbilt is at least as good a prospect as Looney (and I really liked Looney).

Also just want to point out that Kostas has an insane highlight reel for a guy who scored 151 points all year. Somebody is going to wonder if there's something there that can be harnessed.

Agree on the athleticism, on a few of those plays, he gets up pretty good to lay it in. Given he was 6'5 when he was being recruited, he's grown 2 inches in two years, thus still has more of that natural filling out of his frame (and naturally becoming a more powerful athlete in the process) that I harp on Thon not having with the age discrepancy.

Yeah I think as switching defenses become what everyone is doing on defense, guys like Vanderbilt and Kostas will be the next best unicorns to have.

That's all I've got so far. Who else do I look at.

Lonnie Walker is similar to last year's draft Semi Ojeleye
Elie Okobo has some DeAngelo Russel in him.

Yes, Khryri Thomas is intriguing too.

PS Wonder if Indiana is willing to take Delly and Khyri for Bogdanovic... or any other team who accepts to eat one of our bad contacts for #17 and we land a good bench option.
A trade down scenario where we draft / trade Khryri for Elie Okobo + something

Huerter got a 1st rd promise from someone, if not a few... Read multiple times that he was withdrawing if he didn't.

I'm over with the drafting of "projects" for a bit. Thon and DJ are enough for now. More Brogdon's please. High floor albeit low ceiling.

Don't really agree with how some people quantify ceiling and floor. I see Zhaire Smith having a much higher "floor" than a guy like Huerter.

With Porter out, I'm pretty much ready to punt on the 1st round of this draft. On top of #17 being a historically horrible spot for the Bucks, there's just nothing there that excites. Really just seems like a bunch of SGs who haven't proven they can actually shoot (not including Huerter because it doesn't feel like he should go this high). I'd much rather either trade back or package with existing players to get a legit NBA player.
